My Great Escape Led Me to You novel Chapter 82

Emily Blair stormed out of school, her mood sour and her mind swirling with resentment.

She halted abruptly.

A sleek Rolls-Royce was parked at the gate—Andrew Lane’s car. His assistant stood by the door, waiting.

Normally, Emily wouldn’t have cared.

But what caught her breath was Elizabeth Wilson standing there, deep in conversation with the assistant.

Emily’s nerves immediately went on high alert.

Was Andrew Lane about to discover Elizabeth Wilson’s talent even earlier than he had in her previous life?

Without thinking, Emily strode over to Elizabeth’s side.

Elizabeth’s tone, light and curious, carried none of the usual flattery or deference. “This car must cost at least half a million, right?”

The assistant noticed Emily and brightened, opening his mouth to speak, but Emily cut in swiftly:

“Elizabeth, fancy running into you here! What a coincidence!”

Elizabeth gave her a long look, then glanced at the school gates, her eyes narrowing with a flash of disdain.

She leaned in close to Emily, tapped her own forehead with her index finger, and said meaningfully, “Emily, did you lose your mind somewhere? Maybe you should go look for it.”

Emily, for once, was at a loss for words.

Elizabeth scoffed. “I was just asking a question. No need to get so worked up, Emily.”

With that, she shot Emily another look of contempt and strode away, her laughter trailing behind her.

Only then did Emily realize Elizabeth had misunderstood—she thought Emily was jealous of her talking to Andrew Lane.

But all Emily wanted was to keep Andrew from recruiting Elizabeth the way he had before.

Emily opened her mouth to explain, but the words wouldn’t come. She could only watch Elizabeth’s retreating figure.
