It was Andrew Lane’s assistant who’d been standing outside the door. Hearing the commotion inside, he hurried in with a couple of men and blocked the exit.
The assistant avoided Emily Blair’s eyes, clasped his hands in front of him, and bowed his head respectfully. “Ms. Blair, Mr. Lane hasn’t given you permission to leave yet.”
Emily turned, glaring at Andrew. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
Andrew Lane, holding a wine glass, swirled the crimson liquid slowly. As he finally looked up, his eyes were cold, unflinching. His voice was icy, almost amused. “You’re brave, aren’t you? Smashing bottles over people’s heads now?”
Emily’s fingers curled into a fist. Her voice was sharp. “This girl was only working a part-time job here. Sebastian Austin dragged her in against her will. If you have any decency left, you’ll let us go.”
Elizabeth Wilson, eyes rimmed red, looked at Emily with suspicion. “Emily Blair, do you know these people?”
“Emily Blair?” Sebastian echoed, his brow furrowing as recognition dawned. “You’re Emily Blair?”
Isabella Austin had warned him about Emily Blair more than once.
Emily pressed her lips together, meeting his gaze coldly. “That’s right. So what?”
A twisted smile crossed Sebastian’s face as he stalked over. “So you’re the infamous Emily Blair? You want to play the hero? Let’s see if you’re up for it. You’re not leaving tonight.”
Panic spiked in Emily’s chest. She grabbed Elizabeth, ready to make a break for it.
But Sebastian was faster. With one stride, he clamped a hand around her wrist. “Mr. Lane, Emily Blair attacked me. You can’t just let her walk away.”
He threw Isabella Austin’s name into the mix. “Besides, both of these women are lying. Elizabeth Wilson barged in here on purpose, trying to seduce me. I never dragged her in. I didn’t force her.”
Elizabeth’s eyes blazed with fresh tears. “You liar! You forced me—everyone here saw it!”
