My Great Escape Led Me to You novel Chapter 96

A sudden commotion erupted outside, the sounds chaotic and frenzied.

Then came a violent crash—the door kicked open from the other side. Every noise seemed to pound against Emily Blair’s eardrums.

Her head buzzed as she tipped it back, lips parted, pouring another mouthful of whiskey down her throat.

“What are you doing? Enough already!”

A furious shout rang out. Before Emily could react, someone slapped the glass from her hand. It shattered on the floor, shards flying as liquor seeped into the carpet.

She glanced up, dazed.

Elizabeth Wilson stood before her.

Emily had no idea when she’d shown up, but Elizabeth hadn’t come alone. A whole crew of her friends—brothers and sisters in arms—poured into the nightclub behind her. Some brandished bats or crowbars, others even knives, the sight enough to make the bodyguards by the entrance freeze in place.

Elizabeth grabbed Emily’s wrist and hauled her upright.

“Don’t just stand there. Move!”

Elizabeth dragged her through the chaos, pushing past the stunned crowd and straight out of the club.

Behind them, Elizabeth’s friends cheered, while others cursed or cried out in alarm.

The icy night air whipped against Emily’s face, chilling her to the bone. Running only made the nausea worse; her stomach churned violently.

She wrenched her wrist free and staggered to a trash can, collapsing to her knees and vomiting, hard and painfully, as if she might cough her stomach up entirely.

Elizabeth hurried over, concern sharp in her voice. “Is that blood?”

“Are you bleeding? Is it your stomach?”

Emily shook her head weakly. “I don’t know.”

Elizabeth seized her hand. “Come on, we’re going to the hospital.”

Emily was yanked to her feet, but the world spun—her vision went white. Everything went black.

When consciousness returned, Emily found herself in a hospital bed.
