My Great Escape Led Me to You novel Chapter 99

Emily Blair lowered her gaze, her voice cool and steady. “If you’re feeling unwell, then just go. I won’t keep you here.”

Andrew Lane’s eyes darkened, his tone heavy with tension. “That’s your attitude, Emily?”

Emily lifted her chin, stubbornly meeting Andrew’s gaze, a mocking smile tugging at her lips.

“What attitude do you want from me? I’m lying here, a patient with a stomach ulcer from drinking, and now I’m supposed to worry about the feelings of the people who hurt me?”

Andrew’s voice was grave. “Sebastian Austin’s actions have nothing to do with her.”

“Don’t take this out on Isabella.”

Emily drew in several deep, steadying breaths. She wanted to speak, but the words caught in her throat.

She wanted to ask Andrew: Did he really not know why Sebastian Austin could act like a king in that place? It was all because he had Isabella Austin—Andrew’s own cousin—as his support, the woman Andrew had chosen to marry.

Every ounce of Sebastian’s confidence came from Isabella.

Andrew, did you really not see that?

Isabella leaned against Andrew’s chest, her eyes shiny with unshed tears, the picture of delicate innocence.

“I’m so sorry, Emily,” she whispered, voice trembling. “I’m pregnant, and the baby’s been restless. I just haven’t had the energy to keep Sebastian in line.”

Andrew’s hand tightened protectively on Isabella’s shoulder, as if lending her strength.

Emily closed her eyes, steadying herself, then reopened them.

“Just go. Both of you. I need to rest.”

Isabella actually left, but Andrew lingered, refusing to go.

Now, only she and Andrew remained in the hospital room.

Without pretense, Emily lay down and turned her back to him.

Andrew’s voice came, low and rough. “Don’t take your anger out on Isabella.”

Emily yawned. “You’ve got it wrong. I was just stating facts. When did I ever lose my temper?”

Silence fell behind her.

Suddenly, a strong hand clamped down on her shoulder, forcing her to roll over.
