Chapter 1

Chase Whitmore kept a mistress, and Nora Langston chose to look the other way.

When he gifted the mistress jewelry and rare collectibles, Nora was holding Jamie in her arms, watching the

stars.

When he threw a dronelit birthday celebration that dazzled all of Bellwood, she was vacationing in Zurich with their daughter.

When he brought that mistress to his office and screwed her behind closed doors, Nora watched the security

footagestonefacedthen turned it off.

It wasn’t until the mistress, out of jealousy, kidnapped her daughter, and both of them fell off a cliff and

ended up in the hospital, that things finally broke.

Nora raced to the hospital. Just in time to hear the doctor tell Chase, The blood supply is low. We can only

save oneeither the child or the adult.

Chase hesitated. Under Nora’s piercing gaze, he finally muttered, Save the child.

Nora watched him sign the form, his pen trembling ever so slightly. He paused for a full thirty seconds.

In the end, he still wrote down their daughter’s name.

Nora exhaled softly and turned back to Chasethe man she had loved for a decade.

Chase, do you even remember what you promised me?

She looked at him, furious.

She had spent ten years chasing after him. Just hearing he hadn’t eaten dinner, she’d rush all over the city to get him his favorite porridge. When he was injured after a race and lost too much blood, she nearly drained herself to donate to him. But no matter what she did, he only ever found her annoying.

Then Whitmore Group hit a financial crisis. To save the company, he was forced to marry her.

That day, she’d arrived full of joyonly to hear him say coldly, Marriages in families like ours are all about mutual benefit. I’ll never give you real love. You’d better give up on that fantasy.

On the eve of their wedding, she was forced to sign a contract: a marriage of terms.

They were to fulfill all marital duties and enjoy all rights as husband and wifeexcluding fidelity.

But even then, one rule remained: his affairs must never touch the family.

And for years, they stuck to that rule well.

Even as Chase went through woman after woman, Nora never once interfered.

But the one thing she could not toleratewas him hurting her daughter.

I’m sorry. I didn’t expect Camila to go that far,Chase tried to explain. She saw our family photo this morning and lost itacted on impulse

Nora’s hands were clenched white. After a long silence, she said only one thing:

If you can’t keep your woman in check, I’ll do it for you. And trust meI won’t be gentle.

Chase gave a quiet mm,said he understood, then stepped out into the hallway to smoke.

They had always been like this. A pictureperfect couple from the outside, but strangers behind closed

doors.

Two hours later, the doctor emerged from surgery and informed Nora with a heavy sigh,

The child survived, but suffered a severe brain trauma. She’s currently in a comalike state. Ms. Camila Rae was a bit luckiershe’s already regained consciousness.

Nora stumbled into the room.

The first thing she saw was Jamie’s pale little face.

When she turned around, Chase was goneprobably off checking on Camila.

Fighting back tears, she gently wiped her daughter’s face. Outside the open door, two nurses whispered by

the station:

I just passed the stairwell. The Whitmore CEO was talking to the doctortold him to save the adult, not

the kid.

No way. Who does that to their own daughter?

Why would I lie? I saw them sign a second consent form with my own eyes!

Nora’s heart turned to solid ice.

She shut her eyes. Two tears slipped down her face as a fierce hatred for Chase surged in her chest.

That same night, she made a call to the Whitmore estate. Linda, her private secretary, answered.

Find the marriage agreement I signed with Chase back then. Take a photo and send it to me. Don’t alert anyone.
