Chapter 5
Icy water flooded her nose. Nora choked, flailed, and nearly went under.
Chase stood at the edge of the pool, one arm around Camila, watching leisurely.
“You splashed water on Camila’s face–now you can drink all you want.”
“Nora, I told you: there’s a price to pay for everything you do.”
A piercing ring filled Nora’s cars. Their voices blurred into static.
All she felt was regret – overwhelming, gut–wrenching regret.
Why had she clung so hard to someone who never loved her?
This was what she’d earned for it: disgrace. Humiliation.
Loving Chase had been a mistake from the very beginning.
She didn’t know how long she drifted before the guards finally dragged her out.
By then, the sky was dark.
Still coughing up water, Nora staggered up to the second floor–only to hear low moans and laughter
spilling out from the master bedroom.
“Chase, this is your new home with your wife… are you sure it’s okay for you to sleep with me in her bed?”
“Don’t worry about her. Like I said–every bed I own should carry your scent.”
“Oh, you’re terrible~”
The sounds turned more intimate, more obscene.
Every syllable cut through her like a shard of glass. The last warmth in her heart turned to ash.
Nora slid to the floor against the wall, picked up her phone, and dialed.
“Lena,” she said quietly. “Can clerk’s office at the county courthouse move up our divorce hearing? L… I Can’t take this anymore.”
Her voice trembled. She was crying, but made no sound.
“There’s nothing open tomorrow, but I can get you in three days from now,” Lena replied, instantly sensing something was wrong. “We’ll make it happen.”
“Okay. Three days, then.”

Now
Nora hung up, her body limp, collapsing against the cold floor.
She had never felt this tired.
She had been wrong–so wrong.
Thinking love could win love back…
That was the cruelest lie in the world.
She leaned into the corner, dazed and disoriented–until a sudden shriek broke the silence upstairs, followed by the bedroom door slamming open.
“Nora!” Chase stormed out, eyes blazing. “Why the hell was there a needle in Camila’s nightgown? Did you put it there?!”
Camila stood behind him, looking shaken. Faint hickeys dotted her neck, and the silk nightgown she wore…
belonged to Nora.
Nora’s face darkened.
“Who told you that you could wear my clothes?”
“Oh, so you admit it’s yours,” Chase snapped. “Then you deliberately set Camila up!
You really are twisted!”
His eyes burned like she was some venomous creature.
Nora’s rage flared–then broke into bitter laughter.
“I set her up? What, did I force her to wear it?
You two want to sneak around, role–play, do whatever sick stuff turns you on–and now I’m the one to
blame because she put on my clothes?”
She laughed again–sharp and hollow.
“You’re all disgusting.”
Chase’s expression flickered. Deep down, her words stung–because they weren’t entirely wrong.
But then Camila burst into tears.
“There weren’t many clothes here. I had no choice!
She knew I might wear it. She planned this–she knew I’d wear it!”
Chase’s face turned black.
