Celeste was a bit taken aback.
Why was Shawn looking for her? Did he regret giving her the bracelet?
She thought he was a real cheapskate.
Caitlyn said he probably became this way because he grew up in poverty. Although he was rich now, he was still stingy, not only with Caitlyn and their daughter but also with himself.
Caitlyn was totally the opposite, good at making money and spending it. Maybe because of their different views, their main arguments always revolved around money.
Shawn perceived Caitlyn's spending habits as extravagant and irresponsible, while Caitlyn viewed Shawn as excessively miserly and tight-fisted. He couldn't even bring himself to purchase a respectable suit for meetings with significant clients, or reserve a higher-quality hotel room, out of fear that a business deal gone awry would drain his finances.
But although stingy, Shawn wasn't mean. At least he was generous to some of his relatives.
As his company gradually got on track, the news quickly reached his relatives' ears. They came, near or far, to cozy up to him.
Shawn wasn't good at refusing. As long as someone asked, he would try to arrange for them. Many of his company's employees were his relatives.
In her whole life, aside from her wedding gift, the most expensive thing Shawn had given her was a piano at home. Even then, he bought it reluctantly after Caitlyn prodded him.
Caitlyn always thought Shawn was used to hardship and didn't like extravagance. Celeste once thought the same.
However, after Caitlyn's accident, Shawn's actions showed her his heartlessness.
He was willing to spend on those who were beneficial to him. Whether it was fame or interest, once they lost their value, he would kick them out mercilessly.
So, forcing him to give her a bracelet didn't make Celeste feel guilty at all. She even thought it was too little.
Staring at the flashing name on her phone screen, Celeste pondered for a moment and then pressed the answer button.
"Hello?"
"Celeste," Shawn's voice was gentle, "Are you feeling better today?"
Celeste was taken aback.
Shawn rarely showed her such concern. If he did, it must be because he wanted something from her.
She played it cool and replied, "Yeah, much better."
"How could you suddenly have food poisoning? How's your appetite these days? Should I have our housekeeper cook you some food?"
"Dad, don't bother. I have a housekeeper at home too, she can make me food too if I want."
"You always did like the food our housekeeper made."

Liam had never mentioned this before.
Celeste replied emotionlessly, "Liam doesn't like me interfering with the company's affairs. I may be powerless to help. If Angel passed on her own, then she shouldn't have any issues. I feel like you're worrying too much."
"That won't be a problem. Liam will definitely take care of her for your sake," Shawn paused and said, "With Angel at Quantum, if there's something going on with Liam, you'll know right away, right?"
His insinuation was that he had helped her plant a mole next to Liam, allowing her to learn information more easily and secure her position.
It was as if he genuinely cared about her, but what he really cared about was Angel.
Quantum was different from their small family business.

This would greatly help her future marriage and career.
Shawn had never cared for his own daughter like this before.
The whole situation felt ironic to her.
She replied sarcastically, "I never thought you'd plan everything for me."
