Truly, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
Such a finely crafted man–pity his heart’s pitch black.
“Mr. Sutton, you probably don’t know me. I’m Reenie’s friend. Do me a favor,” Katherine stared straight at him, “Be nice to our Reenie. She doesn’t owe you anything!”
Geoffrey didn’t know Katherine at first.
But when he had someone investigate Maureen before, he checked her out too, so he remembered what she looked
like.
“Instead of worrying about our business, you’d better focus on your own studies and stop getting caught.”
He parted his thin lips slightly.
Katherine choked up.
Is he talking about the time she was locked up last time?
This man is so annoying!
It pissed her off!
Geoffrey entered the ward, leaving her with a receding back she couldn’t catch up to.
She was sure now that Jacob was really his son. Sometimes he could say things just as infuriating.
Now she just hoped Jacob wouldn’t become a bad man like Geoffrey, sharp–tongued and scheming.
When Katherine got into the car, she didn’t expect a little head to pop out.
“Aunt Katherine, how’s my mommy?”
Jacob looked worried.
Katherine was startled: “Weren’t you supposed to be at kindergarten?”
Jacob felt helpless; he’d been hiding in the car so long without her noticing.
“I heard you calling Mom this morning and got worried, so I snuck in.”
“You little rascal! Never do this again–it’s dangerous.”
Katherine buckled him into the car seat before driving to kindergarten.

Chapter109
“Don’t worry, your mom’s fine. Just an allergic reaction.”
“Why did Mom have a reaction?”
Jacob knew seafood triggered Mom’s allergies, but nothing else did. Did someone slip seafood into her food?
Katherine had promised Maureen not to tell, yet he’d already figured it out.
She confessed everything.
Worry clouded the boy’s eyes.
“Katherine, when can I see Mom?”
He desperately wanted to hug her and say he’d protect her.
“Not yet. Maybe in a few days.”
“Okay…”
Jacob slumped in disappointment.
Hospital room.
Geoffrey frowned at Maureen’s rash–covered skin. “Why isn’t this fading?”
“Takes at least half a day.”
Maureen replied.

Earlier, the doctor explained to Geoffrey: while allergies only show as red spots to others, the gnawing itch feels worse than pain–only the sufferer truly knows.
Geoffrey never expected his first attempt at cooking would land Maureen in the hospital.
“What else can’t you eat?”
he asked.
Maureen froze momentarily before shaking her head.
Geoffrey was about to ask more when his phone rang.
Maureen spotted the name “Andrea” flashing on his caller ID.
He picked up the phone, walked to the balcony, and only then answered.
Whatever Andrea discussed with him, he emerged saying: “Got business today. Wayne’ll handle your discharge and take you back to Pearl later.”
“No need to trouble…”
Maureen’s protest died as Geoffrey cut in: “I replaced your driver. Wayne’ll assign a new one.

Chapter 109
Her driver was Gareth’s man.
The thought struck Geoffrey yesterday after learning she’d vanished.
Maureen swallowed hard, biting back any retort.
He’d always been this high–handed, never considering others‘ wishes.
Shortly after Geoffrey left, Wayne arrived to process Maureen’s discharge and assign her new driver.
“Ms. Ramirez, just say the word if you need anything.”
Wayne said.
Maureen murmured “Okay” before exiting the car and entering the villa.
Today, the villa stood unnervingly quiet.
Sleepless, she returned to composing music.
Before long, the sound of the front door opening echoed from downstairs.
She thought Geoffrey had returned, so she didn’t pay it any mind.

Only when a knock came at her bedroom door did Maureen look up to see Heather standing there, impeccably dressed in a cocktail dress.
This was their first face–to–face meeting since Maureen left years ago.
Heather hadn’t truly believed Maureen was alive, nor that she’d moved back into Pearl as Andrea claimed.
“Let’s talk.”
