After all, Alex now outshone Geoffrey, so she dismissed her old feelings and spoke first: “Big brother, sister–in–law, please have a drink.”

For Geoffrey’s convenience, the wine glass was placed right by his hand, within

But Geoffrey didn’t take it. Instead, he grabbed Maureen’s hand.

“Your sister–in–law and I don’t drink. Go toast others.”

Elizabeth froze and looked at Alex.

Alex picked up the wine glass and handed it to Elizabeth: “Since big brother and sister–in–law aren’t drinking, we’ll drink.”

“Okay.”

After agreeing, Elizabeth drank.

Originally, the couple only needed to toast their closest relatives, but today Alex toasted everyone present.

He finished every drink that Elizabeth couldn’t handle.

It wasn’t until later in the Engagement Party that Maureen finally saw Jacob.

Jacob’s little face was flushed, obviously because Scott had taken him to get makeup done. He was also wearing an expensive little suit.

What’s more, his left hand was held by Scott, and his right hand by Albert.

He nearly stole the spotlight from the engaged couple of the day. Luckily, he only showed up when it was almost over.

The guests at the banquet were all important tasks, and Nicholas was present too. Seeing Old Shen holding a child’s hand, he found it rather odd.

“Old Shen, who’s this kid?”

Old Shen puffed up with pride. “Sean’s son. My great–grandson.”

Upon hearing this, Nicholas immediately had someone fetch his reading glasses.

After putting them on, his eyes lit up instantly. “How in the world… does this boy look so much like Alex and Geoff did when they were little?”

Maureen’s heart nearly stopped.

Fortunately, Scott spoke up. “Mr. Sutton, don’t you start claiming my grandson now. Katherine gave birth to this child, and she’s never even met Mr. Sutton.”

Nicholas reconsidered, realizing people can look alike.

“Hahaha, I was just taken by how well–behaved he is. Truly adorable.”

Old Shen immediately shielded his great–grandson. “Don’t even think about taking my little Jacob.”

These three men, their combined age over two centuries, were bickering like children.

Jacob was already utterly confused. After all, he was just a child, thoroughly exhausted by today’s events.

Maureen watched from afar and heaved a sigh of relief. Seeing how much Scott and the others adored Jacob warmed her heart.

Heather had been observing Jacob all along. Her investigation clearly showed Katherine never had children–so how had Jacob suddenly become Sean and Katherine’s son?

She refused to accept it.

Afterwards, Albert and Scott publicly announced plans to host an Engagement Party for Sean and Katherine after the new year.

Thunderous applause filled the room, oblivious to the grim expressions on Sean and Katherine’s faces.

The Engagement Party lasted well into the afternoon.

Alex kept downing glass after glass, drawing worried glances from Lisa beside him: “Alex, slow down. Your body can’t handle it.”

He’d always been meticulous about his health before, but since returning to Karaville, he’d grown reckless.

It broke her heart to see.

Lisa nodded, about to speak further when a hand yanked her backward

“Lisa, tend to the guests. I’ll take Alex to rest,” Elizabeth commanded, clicking in her heels as she steadied the swaying Alex.

Their own engagement made Elizabeth Alex’s future wife, leaving Lisa no choice but to retreat.

With a servant’s help, Elizabeth guided Alex down the corridor, her heart racing.

Since Elizabeth and Alex started dating, Alex had always been a gentleman and hadn’t touched her until now

Even after getting engaged, she still felt uneasy.

For one thing, people said Alex had been sick and was in poor health, but no one knew exactly what illness he had; for another, she feared their engagement was unstable.

Tonight, she had to consummate their relationship to make everything official.

Finally, after bringing Alex back to the room, Elizabeth instructed the servants, “You may all leave now.”
