But Ethan sensed something wrong. Gareth always contacted Mommy no matter how busy. What happened? Was he in trouble?
“Mommy, I miss Uncle Gareth. Call him?”
Realizing they hadn’t spoken for long, Maureen picked up her phone to dial Gareth’s number.
Country Town, hospital.
The phone rang, and Gareth’s friend Lawrence stepped forward to pick it up. Seeing “Maureen” on the caller ID, he frowned slightly.
“Alex has been in trouble for so long, and only now she calls? How heartless.”
Lawrence glanced at Gareth lying injured on the hospital bed–covered with medical devices and tubes–and hung up Maureen’s call.
“Don’t blame me, Alex. You should find someone suitable instead of getting tangled with a married woman.”
After saying this, Lawrence blocked Maureen’s number and placed the phone back on the nightstand.
When Maureen tried calling Gareth again, she only got a busy signal.
Assuming he couldn’t answer because he was occupied, she didn’t attempt another call.
“Uncle Gareth will call back when he sees it,‘

Maureen reassured Ethan.
Ethan found it stranger still–Uncle Gareth had never ignored Mommy’s calls before. What could have happened?
But with the urgent matter between Mommy and his jerk dad to resolve, he brushed the thought aside.
“Mommy, Uncle Gareth is really great. I keep telling Uncle Alex that Uncle Gareth is dad. Could you be with him instead?”

“Mommy, I don’t like Uncle Alex. I like Uncle Gareth. Marry Uncle Gareth and let him be my dad, okay?”
Ethan continued.
Maureen slowly snapped back to reality and hugged him. “Silly, you’re too young to understand. Marriage requires mutual affection between two people.”
“Then do you like Uncle Geoffrey or Uncle Roy?”
Ethan stared directly at Maureen.
Facing a young child, Maureen answered dismissively: “Neither. Mommy only likes you and Jacob.”
Ethan knew she was brushing him off and quietly made other plans.
“Ethan, don’t you like Uncle Geoffrey?”
Maureen suddenly asked.
Seeing father and son take a walk together today, she’d assumed Ethan liked Geoffrey.
Ethan immediately shook his head. “I don’t like him, Mommy. Please never be with him.”
That jerk dad wasn’t entirely evil, but he’d abandoned him, his brother, and Mommy. He’d teamed up with that awful woman to bully Mommy, almost getting her killed.
The pain in his body was a constant reminder–his jerk dad was no good. He’d never forgive that
man.
Maureen didn’t expect Ethan, who seemed to get along well with Geoffrey on the surface, would actually dislike him and oppose their relationship.
She naturally prioritized her son: “Alright, Mommy will listen to you. Sleep tight now.”
Only then did Ethan obediently drift off, though something still weighed on his mind.
Early next morning while Maureen was occupied, Ethan called Jacob on his smartwatch.
The other end answered after a long delay.
Ethan sounded displeased: “Bro, what took you so long?

Jacob was currently standing at the corner of a luxury villa’s top–floor balcony, overlooking Karaville’s breathtaking panorama.
This was the Robson estate.
After Elizabeth and Alex’s engagement party, Albert was now organizing Katherine and Sean’s.
Scott welcomed the news enthusiastically, delivering his daughter Katherine and himself to the Robson ancestral home that very night.
While leaving, Scott tearfully told Jacob: “At great–grandpa’s house, don’t forget your grandpa. Visit often after your parents‘ engagement party, understand?”
Albert absolutely adored Jacob.
“This great–grandson of mine, the cleverest and most sensible, would never forget his grandpa. Come, let’s go home with Great–Grandpa.”
If the White family hadn’t been less influential than the Robsons, Scott would’ve kept Jacob by his side at all costs. As for his daughter–she’s gone now.
Jacob was both elders‘ treasure.
More melodramatically, even Sean suspected the previous paternity test was falsified, believing Jacob to be his biological son.
Jacob had no choice but to accept this fate with Aunt Katherine.
