Geoffrey knitted his brows slightly.

Maureen tried to rise, but Geoffrey remained immovable like a mountain.

“Geoffrey, move!” she hissed under her breath.

Ignoring her, he called toward the door:

“Reenie’s asleep. Come back tomorrow.”

Steven stood frozen at the threshold, pounding harder on the door.

“Bad guy! Give Mommy back! Waaah… Mommy! Mommy!”

He couldn’t let that jerk hurt Mommy right before his eyes.

Hearing Steven’s sobs–real or fake–Maureen panicked and bit down hard on Geoffrey’s solid shoulder.

Geoffrey drew a sharp breath but didn’t budge, tightening his grip instead.

“Be good, listen to me. Stay with me tonight, and I’ll do whatever you say from now on.”

Maureen refused and increased her force.

Geoffrey grunted.

Outside the door, Ethan kept shouting: “Bad guy, hand over Mommy or I’ll call the police!”

Maureen tasted blood in her mouth, loosened her grip slightly, and said again:

“Geoffrey, if you keep this up, I’ll ignore you forever.”

In the past, Geoffrey wouldn’t have been threatened by her.

Maureen scrambled out of his embrace and rushed through the door.

Ethan was a bit narcissistic. Though he looked exactly like his older brother Jacob, he thought he was more handsome and more popular with girls. It was just a pity his illness kept him from going to school like other kids.

While Maureen was taking pictures of Ethan, Geoffrey changed into new clothes and came out neatly dressed, just in time to be caught in the photo.

The moment froze. In the picture, the big one and the small one looked almost identical.

The clothes Maureen bought were also similar in color, somewhat like parent–child outfits, making them look like real father and son.

But Maureen didn’t notice and saved the photo.

When Ethan saw that scumbag dad come out, his eyes were full of disgust. He changed positions so Maureen could take pictures.

She reached out days ago about purchasing your music–I hadn’t gotten your thoughts yet.”

Maureen typed back: “No. Personal matter.”

“Ohhh.”

Betty paused, then recalled something else. “Actually, BOSS, I’ve noticed someone discreetly investigating our shell studio registered publicly.”

The studio served as Maureen’s cover story since returning.

Hearing this, Maureen instantly knew investigators from Karaville were behind it.
