Chapter 50: Beyond

Adrian had been silent for a long time. After Valerian left, after the brutal beating that left him battered and barely breathing on the cold floor, he had stopped screaming. Stopped struggling. He just sat there.

Time blurred and he didn’t know if it had been hours or days. The dim lights never changed, the walls never moved, and the only sound in the room was the faint ringing in his ears. His body achedhis wrists raw, his ribs screaming with every shallow breathbut none of it mattered. Pain was nothing compared to the thoughts clawing through his mind.

Noelle and the baby.

Suddenly, the heavy creak of metal sliced through the silence. Adrian’s eyes flicked up just as Valerian stepped inside in his usual calm posture while his men followed behind. Adrian barely had time to process their presence before he saw it.

A wheeled restraint chair rolled into the room. Thick leather straps hung from the sides, buckles glinting under the dim light. It was the kind of chair used for those deemed too unstable to be left unrestrainedpeople who had lost their minds completely. 2

Adrian’s fingers twitched. His breath slowed, but his pulse hammered in his chest. His eyes locked onto the restraint chair and his bloodied hands curled into fists.

What is this?he growled. You’re going to put me in that? You’re treating me like I’m crazy?!.

His fury burned through his exhaustion, igniting something violent inside him. The sheer insult of it sent a fresh wave of rage through his veins. He wasn’t insane. He was trapped. He was losing control. (1

But Valerian?

Valerian merely chuckled.

The sound was low, almost amused, but there was something chilling beneath it. He tilted his head slightly, watching Adrian like he was nothing more than a pitiful animal lashing out in its final moments.

After this,Valerian said smoothly as eyes gleamed with cruel amusement. 1

You will be.

The smirk that followed was the last thing Adrian saw before rough hands grabbed him.

He thrashed instantly, his instincts kicking in, but he was too weak. His battered body refused to fight the way it should, and before he could so much as curse, a sharp prick in his neck sent fire through his veins.

His vision instantly blurred. His limbs turned sluggish and it was as if the room swayed.

No-

11

The protest barely left his lips before the world began to slip away.

The last thing he heard was Valerian’s voice ordering his men to strap him in.

A slow, suffocating fog clung to Adrian’s mind as he drifted back to consciousness. His body felt heavy but numbed down by exhaustion and pain. His breathing was deep and uneven, as if he were dragging himself out somewhere narrow and dark.

Then, awareness hit him like a sledgehammer. His eyelids snapped open, and at first, all he saw was a dimly lit room. It was sterile, unfamiliar and its walls were painted in muted, lifeless colors. But then his gaze lifted, and his entire body froze.

A large glass pane stretched in front of him, revealing the scene on the other side. An operating room.

And at the center of it all was Noelle.

His breath stopped.

She lay motionless on the operating table, her body eerily still, lost in the depths of unconsciousness. The harsh glow of the overhead surgical lights bathed her pale face in sterile white, casting stark shadows across her delicate features. Around her, doctors and nurses moved with quiet efficiency, their gloved hands working swiftly as they monitored her vitals, adjusted equipment, and prepared for the procedure.

A blue surgical drape covered the lower half of her body, shielding what was happening beyond it from view. Her legs were raised and secured in stirrups, positioned exactly as necessary for the operation.

Adrian’s pulse roared in his ears. Because to him, this was a nightmare.

A violent, primal panic seized him as his instincts kicked in He tried to move, but he was held back by the thick leather straps that secured him to the chair, locking him in place, restraining him like a rabid animal.

His breath came in sharp, frantic bursts as his body jerked forward, but the binds didn’t budge.

NoHis voice was hoarse, barely above a whisper, but the desperation in it was undeniable. No, no, no

Then his eyes flicked back to the operating roomback to her.

A nurse handed the doctor a syringe to finally start the operation.

Adrian’s entire body convulsed with rage and horror.

NO!The word ripped from his throat, raw and desperate. He struggled violently, the chair creaking under the force of his thrashing. STOP!!! NOELLESTOP!!!

But no one reacted. No one could hear him and the realization made his blood run cold.

A choked, strangled sound tore from his throat.

He couldn’t stop this.

LET ME OUT!!!His voice cracked, his body jerking with another violent pull against the restraints. SOMEBODY LET ME OUT!!! I’LL FUCKING KILL YOU ALL!!!

His throat burned, his muscles screamed, but he didn’t care

He had endured pain before. He had taken beatings, bullets torture.

But this?

This was worse than death.

The doctor leaned over Noelle, speaking to her softly. She nodded weakly.

Adrian’s stomach twisted violently.

NOELLE!!!He bellowed. DON’T FUCKING DO THIS!!!

Adrian’s chest heaved while his body trembled. He yanked so hard at the restraints that his blood seeped from torn skin, but it didn’t matter.

Nothing mattered except stopping this.

The doctor lifted the syringe, bringing it closer to Noelle’s IV.

NO!!!Adrian’s entire body convulsed as he fought against the binds, his teeth grinding so hard they threatened to break. PLEASE!!!1

He didn’t care if he sounded desperate.

He was desperate.

DON’T TAKE MY CHILD!!!His voice cracked, his vision spinning, his body on the verge of collapse. PLEASE- STOP!!!

Then, before his bloodshot eyes, the doctor inserted the needle into her IV. His body instantly locked up, his breath choking in his throat as he watched the clear liquid disappear into the tube.

VASILIEV!!!he roared, his voice cracking under the sheer force of his desperation. STOP THIS!!!

He thrashed violently, his arms burning as the restraints dug into his flesh, cutting deeper, tearing skin, but he didn’t care. His mind was unraveling, his screams turning feral as his body fought against the impossible.

I’LL FUCKING KILL YOU ALL!!!

His voice was nothing but agony.

And yet, beyond the glass, the procedure continued.

As if he weren’t even there.
