Obsession His Runaway Bride (Noelle and Adrian) novel Chapter 58

Chapter 58: Mercy

Chapter 58: Mercy

Calix met Valerian’s cold gaze headon. Adrian Blackwood violated my sister,he stated firmly with his voice. And I want to make him pay for it.

Valerian raised a brow at his impudence. His fingers, which had been lazily drumming against the desk, suddenly stopped.

Slowly, he leaned forward as his silvergrey eyes darkened. Your sister?he repeated.

Calix didn’t hesitate to answer once more like he was stating an obvious thing. Yes, Noelle.

The silence that followed was deafening.

It took a few good seconds before he spoke again.

Now that is funny. His tone was sour as every syllable cut like a blade. Because, Levi McGrath,he spat the name like it disgusted him, I don’t recall Noelle having a brother when she was crying out in my arms.

The air between them suddenly turned suffocating as the weight of Valerian’s words pressed down heavily on him, cutting out his guilt

Calix swallowed, but Valerian had no patience for whatever excuse he was about to offer. His voice came again, sharper, unforgiving, and merciless this time.

You call yourself her brother, yet where were you when Adrian kidnapped her?His silvergrey eyes burned with fury. Where were you when she was dragged to his fucking island, alone, with no one to turn to? Do you have any idea what she went through? Do you know how many hours she spent trapped in his hands, terrified out of her mind? No, you don’tbecause you weren’t there.

Calix’s jaw tightened hoping he could say something, but Valerian wasn’t finished.

You weren’t there when she cried herself to sleep in a locked room, wondering if she would ever be free again. His added in his tone filled with rage. You weren’t there when she tried to run, only to be dragged back like some possession to be owned.

The words hit like bullets, each one striking deeper than the last.

Calix opened his mouth to speak, but Valerian cut him off with a glare that could’ve frozen hell over.

Calix flinched, but Valerian barely gave him time to process it.

And you sure as hell weren’t there when she was bleeding, terrified, shaking in my arms, so broken she could barely stand.Valerian exhaled sharply as his patience snapped. Where the fuck were you, Levi? His voice was ice, his words like knives. Where the fuck were you when your sister needed you the most?”

She needed someone,Valerian pressed as his eyes locked onto Calix like a predator eyeing its prey. And you, her socalled brother, were nowhere.

Calix inhaled and remained silent while his fingers curled tighter.

I didn’t know,he finally ground out, but the words sounded weak even to his own ears.

Valerian let out a bitter laugh, shaking his head. Of course you didn’t.He leaned back slightly, but the cold fury in his eyes didn’t fade. You didn’t know because you never stayed long enough to know.

Calix’s throat tightened.

You ran when you were kids and left her alone with your dying mother,Valerian continued mercilessly. You ran when she was forced to survive without anyone to protect her.His eyes darkened. And now, when the worst has already happened, when she’s already suffered more than she ever should have, you finally decide to show up?His lips curled into a bitter smile. How convenient for you to act as her hero.

Iris words Jade Calix flinch, bin he didn’t deny it. He didn’t.

Valerian shook his head in dire disappointment of maybe something more.

You don’t get to waltz in new and act like some avenging brother he said. You don’t get to claim her after abandoning her for years

All of a sudden, Valerian leaned in just enough for his next words target his guilt

You’re not her family.

The words were simple. Cold. And yet, they cut the deepest.

Calix’s entire body tensed and his breath caught in his throat.

Valerian tilted his head slightly with a smirk knowing he had won the argument, of course.

She doesn’t need a brother who only remembers her when it’s convenient,he said. She needs someone who was there when it mattered.

Valerian’s silvergrey eyes locked onto him with a threatening gaze.

And that, Levi McGrath, was never youHe paused.

Silence heavily stretched between them that felt suffocating. Calix barely had time to process those sharp words before Valerian

moved.

With slow, intentional steps, he rose from his seat. Without breaking eye contact, he reached for the sharp dagger hanging by the wall behind him. The polished steel glinted under the light as he pulled it free. The sound of metal sliding against its sheath sliced through the silence like a final warning.

Then, with deadly precision, he turned, pointing the blade directly at Calix as he spoke.

So get the fuck out of here before I see less human in you.His grip on the dagger was steady, his knuckles barely flexing.

You are no brother.

Valerian took a step forward towards him and the blade was only a mere inches from Calix’s throat.

You are a coward.

The words landed like a death sentence for Calix. After all, they were true.

Calix didn’t flinch. But his expression showed his raw emotion and regret. His fingers twitched at his sides, his jaw clenched so tight it ached, but he didn’t move. But his reaction did not affect Valerian at all.

Instead, Valerian kept the dagger pointed at him.

But Calix said nothing.

Because there was nothing left to say.

Yet, his silence only seemed to fuel Valerian’s contempt. The cold steel of the dagger remained pointed at him, unwavering, as if daring him to try and fight for the title of brotherhe so boldly claimed.

Then, as if on cue, the heavy doors behind him swung open.

Valerian’s men, drawn by this anger, stormed into the room. They didn’t wait for an order. They had heard enough. And almost immediately, rough hands gripped Calix’s arms, yanking him backward with force.

Valerian didn’t spare him another glance as his men began to drag him toward the door.

Next time you walk into my territory speaking of things you have no right to, I will be the one throwing you out….he paused.

Consider this mercy.Valerian added coldly before stabbing the dagger onto his desk.
