< Chapter 100
Chapter100.
Leland’s voice, laced with a chilling tone, sent a shiver down my spine. “If you’re truly willing, just grant me the divorce. Stop making me endure the relentless scrutiny of everyone around us. I’m willing to forfeit all my shares in the Leslie Group and hand them over to you.”
His surprise was palpable. He turned away, burying his face in his hands.
For some inexplicable reason, I felt a profound sadness emanate from him. It was a sorrow that seemed to deepen with my willingness to surrender everything.
Then, as if abruptly reinvigorated, he faced me again.”Alright, but here’s the deal: if you can boost the Leslie Group’s performance by 20% within the next month, I’ll sign the divorce papers and grant you half the assets.”
I let out a bitter laugh, “Leland, do you really not get it? I don’t want any of these assets. I’d give them all to you and your mistress. I don’t care what’s going on in that head of yours right now. . I just can’t stand watching you, can’t stand listening to you anymore. All I want is a divorce!”
A flicker of sorrow crossed Leland’s eyes as he stepped closer, his demeanor cold.”Kaylie, I’ve built you up. I know you have pride, but without power, you won’t get that divorce agreement signed. Even if you walk away with nothing, it’s not happening. So, you have no choice but to fight-compete with Caitlyn for the assets in the next month.”
I nodded, a knot of heartache and bittersweet nostalgia tightening in my chest at the mention of Leland.
But those were memories. The man before me felt increasingly like a stranger. I realized I never truly knew him at all.
The CEO office’s air conditioning hummed, yet I felt an icy chill
seep into my bones.
I could almost hear the whispers, the pointed fingers outside those doors-all aimed at me. I was born noble, but now my dignity shattered by Leland’s cruelty.
He had the audacity to bring his mistress into my own company, to challenge me for control. Was I truly so easily pushed around?
Leland, if you truly wish to torment me, there are other ways you could choose. Have you forgotten all the promises and vows you once made to me?”
Biting back tears, I pressed on, “You’ve shattered every good memory we ever had. Do you have any idea how much this hurts? You’re the one who created this mess! Do you think yourself an emperor, free to take multiple wives?”
Leland remained silent. Was he overcome by emotion, or perhaps, something else?
