Old Dreams No Return (Serena) novel Chapter 144

Chapter122.

Lara wordlessly snatched the phone, scrambled to charge it, and then extended Kaylie’s letter to Leland, along with a single key.

“Mr. Pearson, this is the letter Ms. Perez left behind, along with the key to her guest room. She asked you to take care of your health.

“Also… I can’t stay here anymore. I’ve packed my things, and I need to leave now. Breakfast is ready on the table. Anyway, please take good care of yourself from now on.”

Leland watched, stunned, as Lara picked up her suitcase and began to leave. Her shoulders were hunched, her back rounded with a silent grief he couldn’t fathom. He remained frozen, lost in a fog of disbelief.

“Lara! Where is Kaylie? Didn’t you say she would contact me today? What time is it? Is the annual meeting about to start? Is she waiting for me at the

venue?”

Leland’s desperate questions caused Lara to pause, her hand on the doorknob. She hastily wiped her tears, then slowly turned back to face him. Mr. Leland, Ms. Perez has left. She’s gone from here, and she’s left you. She’s never coming back!”

As Lara’s retreating figure finally disappeared from view, Leland was thrown into a whirlwind of thoughts. The letter clutched in his hand left no room for further pondering.

He fumbled open the envelope, his eyes scanning the words within. The sorrow etched into every line stunned him, leaving him breathless and rooted to the spot.

Just then, the door burst open, and three figures rushed in: Leland’s assistant and two senior executives, their faces etched with urgency.

“Mr. Pearson, it’s a disaster! Your villa and the group’s entrance are swarming with journalists. News of Ms. Perez’s departure is going viral online. The Leslie Group shares have collapsed overnight! Everyone’s already gathered at the annual meeting venue. We need your direction! What do we do?”

Leland shook his head, confusion clouding his eyes as he stared blankly at his assistant.”What? What are you saying? What collapsed? What plummet? Speaking of Kaylie… have any of you seen her? Where is she? Is she at the annual meeting? I need to find her, now!”

His gaze fell again on the letter in his trembling hand.”Today, I will leave you completely. The past is gone with the wind, vanished like smoke. From now on, we will never see each other again. Leland, take care.” The confusion in his eyes deepened to a frantic panic.
