Old Dreams No Return (Serena) novel Chapter 146

< Chapter124

Chapter124.

Leland frantically tore through the villa, searching for my phone, but it remained elusive, fueling his mounting rage.

Raul burst in, bringing a dozen security guards. They immediately set about clearing the reporters and conducting a thorough search of the entire property. Finally, they located my phone buried deep within one of the many trash bins.

The moment Leland laid eyes on the phone, the color drained from his face. Still, he couldn’t quite grasp that I had truly gone. He picked it up and stared at the screen for a long time, utterly unable to find his center.

I hadn’t deleted the messages and photos Caitlyn had sent me. I’d left them there, a deliberate trail of poison, knowing he would find them, knowing they would torment him.

Hours passed. Still dazed, Leland sat huddled before the trash bin where the phone had been found. Eventually, he drove to Cherry Farmland, the place we often visited together.

Upon arrival, the new owner informed him that the estate had been sold a month ago. A flicker of disappointment crossed Leland’s face as he turned

away.

Ignoring the persistent press and influencers hot on his heels, he drove straight to the hospital. There, he fixated on the miscarriage report, convinced I had been there just two days prior.

But he forgot that I had visited my parents’ graves the afternoon before, utterly exhausted, only to be later threatened by his mistress and forced to report to the group headquarters.

He never knew how I had dragged my weak, aching body to appear before him, nor could he ever imagine the sheer force of will it took for me to offer him a smile after the miscarriage.

He couldn’t comprehend the depth of the pain, the way my shattered heart bled silently.

But it no longer mattered if he understood. If he had possessed that understanding today, he wouldn’t have committed the acts that led us to this point.

Yet, Leland did not give up. He drove frantically from hospital to hospital, searching room after room for any sign of me.

A bold reporter lunged forward, trying to interview him. Leland’s fist shot out, connecting with a punch that sent the reporter crashing to the floor. Like a man possessed, he tore through every corridor and hospital room, his search frantic and desperate.

After meticulously checking every single room, the crushing realization hit him: he still couldn’t find me.

Everyone could only see him from a distance, pointing and whispering, afraid to approach.

Is that Mr. Leland Pearson?”
