Chapter142.
Merys
Caitlyn was ultimately caught in the crossfire.
Leland’s chest tightened with fury. “Caitlyn, are you truly oblivious to the consequences? As the company’s legal representative, you forged my diagnosis of a terminal illness to coerce Kay into handing over the company, didn’t you? Now, whether it’s bankruptcy, liquidation, or jail time, shouldn’t you the one at the helm-be the one to answer?”
Caitlyn quivered, her fear so palpable that she tumbled from her wheelchair, landing on her knees before Leland.
“Mr. Pearson! I’ve been punished enough. My leg is broken, I lost the child, and I have nothing left. I regret this with every fiber of my being. Please, help me! I know nothing about this company. I can’t go to jail…”
To Caitlyn’s desperate pleas, Leland-his demeanor now unyielding-cast her a look so cold, it was as if he were observing a mere insect.
The rage within him was still a smoldering inferno.
He’d believed he had terminal illness, enlisting Caitlyn to spur me into action, to steel myself. He never anticipated she’d twist his plight so effortlessly.
They wagered that by controlling me and transferring all my assets to Caitlyn’s name, I’d crumble completely, forced to fight on my knees.
But I walked away. And in that moment, I couldn’t fathom the depth of Leland’s fury, or his despair.
“Mr. Pearson, I swear I’ve learned my lesson. I’ve begged for forgiveness from Ms. Perez. I’m already ruined. Please, don’t send me to jail. I’m begging you!”
Leland’s gaze remained cold. With a swift kick, he sent Caitlyn sprawling, then turned to Allen.
“My apologies, Mr. Branson. I’d hoped we could conquer this together, build the Development Project in Mississippi into something monumental. Bur I’ve let you down this time.”
Leland reined in his impatience, his respect for Allen palpable.
Allen nodded, his expression tinged with sympathy.”Mr. Pearson, please don’t be too distressed. Even after a divorce, I can’t imagine you lacking for companionship. I just never anticipated your wife possessed such unwavering resolve, even to choose destroying her parents’ legacy over remaining with you.”
Leland shook his head gently. “You don’t truly understand my wife. Frankly, I blame no one but myself. If anything, I feel profound guilt and remorse. Were fate to grant me another chance, I swear I would never betray her in any way. That’s why I intend to resolve the company’s crisis as swiftly as possible, whether through liquidation or transferring the Development Project in Mississippi. I hope we can discuss this calmly and rationally.”
