Chapter148.

Leland watched, his expression hardening as Caitlyn struggled to stay on her feet, her movements unsteady. Finally, she collapsed. His voice icy, he declared, “When I find Kay, I’ll make Caitlyn kneel and apologize.”

A bitter, mocking smile twisted Caitlyn’s lips.”Make me apologize to Kaylie? Let her come then. She’s gone, Leland, to a place none of you can ever find. You want me to apologize to a ghost? Maybe Kaylie couldn’t take it and killed herself!”

Leland’s jaw clenched, a low growl rumbling in his throat.”Shut up, Caitlyn. You’d better watch your words, or…”

“Or what? Going to finish what you started? Isn’t my life miserable enough already? I lost my child. My leg is broken. I have nothing, not a single penny. Worse off than any beggar on the street.

“Leland. When things were good between us, you spoiled me rotten, gave me everything I craved. But now your money’s gone, and suddenly you wish I were dead. Is this the behavior of the business genius, the man admired by so many?”

Leland’s eyes narrowed. He crouched down, his gaze now level with hers, filled with utter contempt. “Without your deliberate seduction, I wouldn’t have made such a mistake. Caitlyn, I’m telling you now, you will never have a good life.”

A laugh escaped Caitlyn, rasping and more painful than weeping. “You’re all fools, manipulated by Leland! The Leslie Group isn’t worth more than 500 million dollars, yet you paid 1 billion for it! Do you know that 500 million dollars was supposed to go into Kaylie’s account? If Kaylie can’t be found in that month, the entire Leslie Group comes right back into Leland’s hands.”

Tyrell’s brow furrowed slightly, his eyes scanning the fine print of the contract before him. A slow smile spread across his face. He clapped slowly, a single, sharp sound in the tense room.

“Well played. Mr. Pearson, you’re a thorough businessman.”

Leland, however, delivered his justification with a chilling blend of refinement and despicability.”What’s wrong with me planning a future for Kay? I would never allow her to suffer in this life. If you can find Kay, and transfer the money to her account, I’ll even throw in the Perez’s villa for you.”

At that moment, a choked laugh escaped me, quickly followed by tears.

If Leland loved me so much, why did he betray me?

Didn’t he think this entire farce was laughable?
