Old Dreams No Return (Serena) novel Chapter 181

Chapter159.

I couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something calculating, almost manipulative, beneath Tyrell’s demeanor.

Yet, he was clearly trying so hard to be reassuring.

“Can’t sleep, Anya? How about we talk? You don’t need to feel awkward or uncomfortable being alone with me. Just think of me as… well, like an extra pillow, or your bodyguard. Besides, I know you don’t usually spend time with men, but I’m different.”

I gazed at him with mild exasperation, his expression exuding a stubborn sincerity, and said, Tyrell, I really think you should keep your distance…”

“Are you afraid to be in the same room with me, to share space? I am your fiancé, as you’ve acknowledged. Anya, you’re not still hung up on Leland, are you? He’s a jerk. Are you going to stay faithful to him?”

“It’s not like that. Anyway, my personal life really has nothing to do with you…”

“Have you forgotten something? How can it possibly have nothing to do with me? Yesterday, we worked together to acquire the Leslie Group and secure the Development Project in Mississippi. We’re striving to get into the Fortune 500. How can your life be separate from all of this?”

I drew a slow, deep breath, the weight of his recent actions pressing down on me. I genuinely owed him favors, and I suspected this was exactly what Tyrell was counting on. He was clearly doing this on purpose.

Was he just trying to constantly wear me down?

What exactly did he want from me?

Just then, my phone rang.

The caller ID wasn’t saved, but I recognized the number instantly-the one I’d helped Leland choose. How could I not? After all, Leland was the man I’d spent fifteen years with.

The problem was, only Denise, Efrain, and Lara knew my personal number. How had Leland gotten it?

Tyrell’s eyes gleamed with barely concealed excitement. He leaned in slightly, asking, “Anya, are you planning to choose him over me? It’s not even dawn, and another man is already calling. I won’t allow it.”

I rushed to explain, “No. Tyrell, please don’t be like this. It’s making me uncomfortable, and I feel on edge. Besides, even though Leland and I are divorced…”
