Chapter 8

Amidst my heart breaking, I watched as Leland eagerly hugged and kissed Caitlyn after seeing the pregnancy test.

Really? You’re actually pregnant? That’s amazing!”

He was happy and excited.

But I was the daughter of the Perez family.

The entire Perez family belonged to me, yet in front of them, I felt so small.

No, I had my pride.

I turned and went back to the hospital room. I posted a picture of the mango bread in the company group chat, followed by a photo of the nurse giving

me an injection.

I tagged Caitlyn and asked, “Everyone in the company knows I’m allergic to mango. Caitlyn, as someone who is closest to Mr. Pearson and me, how could you not know?”

The group chat exploded. People sent their sympathies upon learning I was in the hospital.

“Ms. Perez hates hospitals. Are you okay?”

“Ms. Hoffman is so irresponsible! What is she trying to do?”

“Ms. Perez, don’t be upset. I’m sure Ms. Hoffman didn’t mean it.”

There were all kinds of comments, but most chose to stay silent, not wanting to offend anyone.

I then tagged Leland, asking him to handle it.

The door was pushed open.

Leland walked in, looking flustered.”Kay, I saw your message in the group chat. I called and asked Caitlyn. She didn’t mean any harm. She knew wanted the bread from that store and gave it to you out of kindness.”

“So, you’re saying we shouldn’t hold her accountable?” I stared at Leland seriously, making him avert his gaze.

I knew he didn’t love me anymore.

you

I took out my phone. Then I’ll post in the group that you’re not pursuing this. I’ll also apologize to Caitlyn. It’s my fault. She gave me the bread, so I should be grateful. Oh, where’s the bread? Bring it here. I’ll eat it.”

My unusual behavior scared Leland.
