Chapter 389
I was panting heavily, gripping the withered grass beside me with all my strength, feeling as if all my energy had been drained.
I was gasping for breath, feeling uncomfortable all over. Emmett, am I about to die, like your girlfriend Maggie? Please, in light of my impending death, tell me the truth What really happened, do you really know about my parents’ car accident? Please tell me, okay?”
My desperate plea made Emmett slightly hesitate, and I watched as he hesitated to speak while still searching for something in his bag.
“It’s impossible, you couldn’t have died. Yes, besides this pill, I have other medicines for you to try. They will definitely save you, after all, I have been researching drugs for these past few years. I have other medicines!”
Emmett began stuffing medicine into my mouth haphazardly, and in the next second, I worried that I wasn’t being killed by Nataly, but by him with the medicine.
My chest started to feel tight, and I felt my parents waving at me from above.
I pointed to the backpack, signaling him. In order to save my life, I had to either give up or ask for help from my three brothers.
But he shook his head forcefully.
“No, if we had fired the signal flare, I would have lost the qualification to stand in front of the McDowell family elders with you. I would not have been able to avenge Maggie. Please, I only want to avenge Maggie. Please, survive and give me a chance!”
Emmett knelt in front of me, desperately pleading for me to survive, and I wanted to as well.
I couldn’t die now.
I had a lot of doubts. In the past year, I experienced the happy life that the McDowell family gave me. I was obsessed with the sense of accomplishment that the upper class society brought me. I even felt that I was much closer to the goals my parents talked about.
I also did not repay the McDowell family, after all, my grandfather, aunt, and three brothers genuinely cared for me. At least this year, I felt an unprecedented sense of happiness.
I tried to get up, but my hand unconsciously reached out to Emmett’s shoulder.
Emmett took a deep breath. This medicine is not eyebrow medicine. It will only cause you more pain when you come into contact with a man. Believe me, Maggie told me this. She told me herself before she died. And Maggie was switched, she is actually Ernesto’s daughter!”
I was stunned, isn’t Ernesto my father?
Ernesto’s daughter, didn’t he just say that Maggie was Aunt Anika’s daughter?
What on earth happened?
I endured the pain and said, “Impossible, I am Dad’s daughter. You just said Maggie is Aunt’s daughter.”
