Another provocative message arrived.
“Kaylie, you’re just a wealthy heiress he can’t let go of for now. The Leslie Group is his hard-earned success. If you really can’t accept it, then just get out of San Francisco. If you don’t dare, you’ll have no choice but to endure him coming to see me every day and our frequent lovemaking.”
Clenching my fists, I activated the phone bug.
On the other end, there were only rustling sounds, no one talking.
I wanted to know if Leland had really gone to see Caitlyn.
The phone stayed on, and I silently tore off the date from the calendar, telling myself to be strong.
I muttered to myself, “Kaylie, leave him. You’re now the executive chairman of Zenith Group. You have options; you still have Mary.
You’ll also get a new identity soon. Once you have it, you won’t be Kaylie Perez anymore; you’ll be Anya Perez.
And leaving here, you’ll start fresh in another country.”
As I thought about this, I closed my eyes. Leland, just as Caitlyn said, all this wealth was from your hard work.
In fact, Caitlyn was right. If I couldn’t tolerate Leland’s affairs, then I should leave.
Leland, I really was leaving, but you hadn’t realized it yet.
I knew that if I didn’t leave then, I would be torn apart by a sense of humiliation.
In my heart, I told myself,”Kaylie, you’re a proud heiress, never giving in or backing down. Will you endure a lifetime of misery for a man who doesn’t love you and has cheated on you countless times?
“No, at 25, others are studying. Do you really want to spend your life heartbroken in San Francisco?
You have a talent for design; you deserve better…”
I snapped back to reality because I heard a door opening through the phone.
“Leland, the baby, and I are waiting. I’m in a nurse’s uniform today!”
