“It turned out to be Chairman Harrison.” Marcus smiled faintly, his golden eyes glearning with calculated

charm. “What a coincidence, right next door.”

Chairman Harrison also smiled, though tension remained in his shoulders. “It is quite a coincidence.”

Marcus’s words broke the somewhat awkward atmosphere that had settled over the room like a heavy

blanket.

Marcus glanced at me with those penetrating eyes that seemed to see through everything. He remarked casually, “I thought my Luna was unwilling to leave because she saw someone familiar, only to find out it was

Chairman Harrison’s daughter.”

The Harrison couple then looked at me with curious expressions. I felt their scrutiny like a physical weight pressing down on my chest.

I forced a smile, my face muscles straining with the effort. I quickly explained, “I had an appointment with Jane Ports and didn’t expect her to be in the next room.”

Mrs. Harrison’s voice carried a gentle but probing tone. “Jane, why didn’t you mention your appointment with

the Alpha’s Luna?”

Jane’s eyes flashed with defiance. “I wasn’t given a chance to speak.”

Chairman Harrison’s face darkened with anger. He was about to scold his daughter when he caught himself. He held back his harsh words and turned to us with forced politeness.

“I apologize to Alpha Marcus and Luna Elena for my daughter’s bad temper,” he said stiffly.

Marcus acknowledged the apology with a slight/nod. “Are we disturbing your family discussion?”

Mrs. Harrison quickly responded, her voice almost too eager. “Not at all! Please, would you like to join us for

a while?”

Marcus didn’t wait for my response. His decision was swift and final. “We appreciate the invitation, but we

should return to our own dinner.”

He paused, his diplomatic mask firmly in place. “We’ll visit when we have more time.”

Without warning, he put his hand around my shoulders. His touch was possessive and commanding. He led me back toward our private chamber with determined steps.

Once inside our chamber, I immediately moved away from Marcus. The space between us felt charged with

unspoken conflict.

“What were your intentions back/there?” I questioned him directly.

Marcus retorted without hesitation. “Was eavesdropping on other pack members‘ conversations interesting?”

My temper flared at his accusation. “What does it have to do with you?”

Marcus’s expression slightly darkened. His Alpha authority radiated from him like heat from a fire. As long

The next day, I had just arrived downstairs at the Riverside Central Healing Institute. The morning air was

crisp and filled with the scent of approaching autumn.

I ran into Rachel Thompson, who got out of her car and waved enthusiastically. “Elena!”

I nodded and smiled genuinely for the first time in days. “Morning.”

Thinking of something important, I asked with curiosity, “Are you used to living with Jane?”

Rachel’s face lit up with amazement. “I’m completely used to it! Jane Ports’s apartment is incredible – a two–story duplex that shocked me when I first moved in.”

She gestured wildly with her hands. “She’s like a hidden wealthy woman! She has two large cabinets full of expensive, limited–edition collectibles.”

I affirmed with a knowing smile. “She is indeed rich.”

Jane suddenly appeared behind us like a shadow. “What are you two secretly saying about me?”

Rachel noticed her gloomy expression immediately. She thought Jane was angry and quickly explained, “I was just shocked by the luxury of your home!”

I chuckled, trying to lighten the mood. “We’re just joking about our Dr. Ports being a hidden heiress.”

Jane’s face crumpled with genuine distress. “Please don’t make fun of me.”

I noticed her furrowed brow and the tension in her shoulders. “Is your family still pressuring you into a mating
