Chapter 107

ALINA’S POV

I stopped.

Slowly turned my head, my eyes darting frantically.

And across the street, leaning casually against a building, was a face, strange, yet sickeningly familiar. One I had hoped never to see in this lifetime.

My blood ran cold.

Jackson.

I could never forget his face. Yes, I knew him from my past life, he was one of the men Adrian and Seraphina had thrown me o. The worst of them all. I had been physically and sexually abused by him, tormented by his sick obsession with me.

Seeing him now, here, sent a violent shiver down my spine.

Why was he showing up now though?

He didn’t appear until months later in my past life. And I’d already dealt with Adrian and Seraphina to a good extent. So…. hey couldn’t have sent him. Could they?

My skin crawled at the expression on his face. That same unsettling grin he wore the first time he laid eyes on me.

Alina.” Talia nudged me gently.

Huh?” I blinked, dragging my gaze away from him and turning toward her.

Are you okay? I’ve been calling you.” She said, frowning in concern.

Yeah… I’m fine.” I exhaled, forcing the air from my lungs.

What were you staring at?” she asked, glancing in the direction I had been looking.

I followed her gaze. Jackson was gone.

Had I imagined him?

“Uhm…. I thought I saw someone, but maybe I was just imagining things.” I replied, trying to keep my voice casual.

“Really? Because you look really pale, like you’ve seen a ghost.” Her eyes scanned my face, worry creasing her brow. “Who

was that?”

“It’s… it’s-”

“Someone from your past life?” She asked softly.

“Yeah.” I nodded slowly.

“Someone who hurt you?” Her voice lowered.

“Badly.” My voice cracked slightly.

“How did you know?” I asked, genuinely surprised.

“You should see your face right now,” she said. “You don’t look good. Let’s go. I’m right here with you. Nobody’s going to hurt you.”

She reached for my hand, lacing her fingers with mine as we walked the rest of the way to the car.

“Where to, ma’am?” Jordan asked as we slid into the back seat.

“Do you know this place?” I asked, turning my phone screen towards him to show him the address Cobi had sent.

“Uhm, yes, ma’am… but why do you want to go there?” He asked, his brow furrowing in concern.

‘I’m going to see a friend. What’s wrong?” I asked, noting the uneasy look on his face.

‘Ma’am, that place… it’s not a good area.”

‘Well, I have you with me, don’t I?” I raised a brow.

‘You do, ma’am, but-”

“Then I’ll be fine.” I cut him off with a soft but firm tone.

‘Yeah, relax, Jordy. We’ve got you.” Talia added, winking playfully at him as she tried to lighten the mood.

Jordan looked away quickly, a blush blooming across his cheeks. Talia chuckled.

‘Leave the poor guy alone.” I muttered, amused.

‘What did I do?” She feigned innocence.

I rolled my eyes at her antics and turned to the window, letting the scenery blur into streaks of gray and green as we drove.

The neighborhood we arrived at was similar to Old Ninth Avenue. Only this time, the houses had picket fences, most broken, many overgrown with grass. Some looked abandoned. Others looked like their owners had long stopped caring.

Jordan kept driving until we reached an area with fewer homes and more open spaces. Then he stopped.

“Is this the place?” I asked.

“Yes, ma’am,” he replied.

I peered out the window. It was eerily quiet. A few kids played in the distance, barely sparing us a glance.

‘I’m here. I texted Cobi.

‘Alright. Walk right in. Came his reply.

“Let’s go.” I said to Talia, reaching for the door handle.

“Are you sure this is the place?” She grabbed my wrist, eyeing the house warily.

“It is. Cobi just told me to walk in.” I reassured her.

“What if it’s a trap?” She whispered, her eyes gleaming with an all-too-familiar spark of danger.

Crazy how she didn’t want to go to the warehouse even after all my assurance but she was excited about this.

You can never know what she is thinking.

I rolled my eyes. “This isn’t a movie, Talia. Get over your weird fantasy.” I said opening that car door and stepping outside.

“I’m just saying.” She shrugged and followed me out.

Jordan made a move to follow us, but I stopped him.

“Why don’t you drive around, Jordan? I’ll let you know when we’re done.”

“But ma’am-”

“I promise I’ll wait inside until you’re back to pick us up.” I assured him.

“Are you sure about this, Ally? Wouldn’t it be better if he stood watch?” Talia asked.

“I don’t want the flashy car drawing attention. That’s why I think it’s better he just drives around.” I explained.

Talia looked uncertain. “I don’t know, Ally…” She shook her head.
