Things got better between Alina and Lucian in the days that followed. Although he wasn’t exactly talking to her, he wasn’t avoiding her like the plague anymore either.
“Adrian is really gone?” Talia asked Alina over the phone.
“He is. He’ll never bother me again.” Alina confirmed.
“You never did tell me how you made that happen.” Talia inquired.
Alina had spared her the gruesome details. She only told her what she needed to know.
“Like I said before, I gave him a choice. Either he leaves… or I make him disappear.”
“And he chose to leave, just like that?” Talia asked skeptically.
Knowing Adrian, it was hard to believe the man would just leave without a fight.
“I can be pretty convincing,” Alina smirked to herself, the method she used flashing across her mind like a vivid memory. Her eyes darkened for a moment. “Besides, it’s not like he has anything here anymore, aside from debts and angry creditors.” She added with a shrug.
“Hmmm. Well, I’m glad he’s gone for good.” Talia said, not wanting to push the matter any further.
She knew there was more to it than Alina was letting on, but she figured some things were better left
unknown.
“So… what’s the plan?” She asked instead.
“I’m going to do something nice for Lucian, then I’ll apologize properly for what happened.” Alina responded.
“Something nice like?” Talia asked, curiosity piqued.
“You know, like dinner… rose petals, a relaxing bath, champagne, and… you know.”
“No, I don’t know.” Talia said flatly, trying to hide a smile.
“Come on, Talia, you know.” Alina whined, her voice rising with playful embarrassment.
“But I don’t.” Talia said more seriously.
“Sex! I mean sex!” Alina finally yelled before burying her face in a pillow, mortified.
Talia howled with laughter.
“Seriously, Ally, why was that so hard for you to say? You’re acting like some virgin when you and I both know how nasty you can get under the sheets.” Talia teased, still laughing.

Chapter 129
“Shut up.” Alina mumbled, her face still flushed.
She could never get used to talking about that, even with her best friend.

“Okay, okay, fine.” Talia said, deciding to stop teasing her. “How about I send you a little something to help with your mission?”
“Like what?” Alina asked, perking up.
“You’ll see.”
“Is it something I’d like?” She asked curiously.
“It’s something your man would like. That I’m certain of.” Talia said smugly.
“Ohhh,” Alina said in realization. “Thank you, baby,” she added warmly. “Anyway, I have to go—”
“Alina, wait.” Talia said suddenly, her tone shifting.
“What?” Alina asked, immediately catching the seriousness in her voice.
“Don’t you think it would be in your best interest to come clean about Louis while you’re at it?” Talia suggested carefully.
“Come clean about what?” Alina asked, confused. “There’s nothing between Louis and me. He’s just a business partner.”
“I know that. But you know how Mr. Blackwood feels about him. How do you think he’ll react when he finds out you’ve been working with the same man he asked you to stay away from for months now?”
“You know I didn’t have a choice in the situation. I didn’t even know the new investor was Louis until it was too late.” Alina said in her defense.
“Again, I know that. But that’s even more reason you should come clean. He’ll understand. You know he’s a reasonable person.”Talia urged.
“I don’t know, Tally. Is there really a need? Louis’s contract will expire in two months. No matter how good he’s been for my business, I don’t plan on renewing it. He’ll be out of my life like he never existed.”
“So… you plan on just winging it?” Talia stated.
