His chest tightened in anticipation. The pieces were falling into place. He tapped her name and called.
“Jessica.” He said as soon as she answered.
“Louis,” her voice came, low and brisk. “She’s on the defensive now. I handled her at the Blackwood tower earlier today, kept her from seeing Lucian. It’s your turn,go be her knight in shining armor.”
Louis closed his eyes, anger flaring. “You’d better not lay a finger on her. If you hurt her in any way-
“I didn’t, I won’t,” she cut in, voice trembling. “I swear.”
“Good.” His tone was ice. “Because if you do, you’ll wish you’d never crossed me.”
Louis had strict instructions to bring Alina unharmed, he wasn’t going to let Jessica jeopardize it because he knew how women get especially when jealous.
“I understand.” She exhaled. “There will be no such mistakes.”
“There better not be because I promise you will regret it.” He warned, then hung up.
He stood, straightened his tie, and walked out.
The game was on. As Louis crossed the lobby of Alinova, his steps were heavy with determination
The next move was his, and he had to make use of the opportunity well.
Alina sat at her sleek glass desk, reviewing the month’s social media engagement on her iPad.
The afternoon light filtered through the floor–to–ceiling windows of her office, illuminating stacks of fabric swatches and the half–finished sketches she’d been meaning to finalize.
The door clicked open.
“Hey, busy bee.” Louis greeted, stepping into the room with his trademark easy confidence and smile.
He draped himself over the back of a chair, arms crossed.
Alina looked up, a small smile tugging at her lips. “Ah, just the man I wanted to see.”
“Miss me?” Louis teased, one eyebrow arched.
She rolled her eyes, playful despite herself. “You wish.”

“Ouch.” He placed his hand over his heart, feigning hurt.
“Drama queen.” Alina teased. “Be serious, we need to finalize the campaign lunch.” She told him.

“Fine, fine, Let’s get to it then.” Louis got serious taking a seat.” So, next week’s campaign lunch, have you settled on a menu?” Louis asked, leaning forward.
Alina nodded, swiping through her iPad. “I’m thinking light, colorful dishes to match our spring palette, like citrus–cured salmon canapés, a strawberry–avocado salad, and miniature beetroot tarts.”
Louis jotted notes. “Perfect. And for décor?”
Mia was supposed to be working on this with Alina but Louis wanted to handle it alone, according to him, he wanted to leave with a bang. Alina didn’t question it.
“Flower–adorned tablescapes,” Alina replied. “I want fresh petals trailing down the center, echoing our rose- motif fabrics. It ties the visuals together.”
Louis smiled. “Brilliant. What about a signature cocktail? We could call it ‘La Rose Dawn‘, a sparkling rosé spritzer with a hint of lavender.”
Alina’s eyes lit up. “Yes! And we can garnish it with a single edible rose petal. Investors love a thematic touch.”
He tapped his pen. “Now, key talking points, emphasize our leap into eco–friendly textiles, highlight those new biodegradable silks, and underline the projected 30% growth from this collection.”
“Got it,” Alina said, ticking items off her screen. “And final push, personalized thank–you notes tucked into each place setting. Handwritten.”
Louis grinned. “You’re ruthless at client relations. This is going to be flawless, just in time before my contract ends.”
Alina smiled softly, she wished she could continue working with Louis because he was good for her company but alas she couldn’t.
“Let’s make sure it is.”
As they continued to work, Louis watched her closely. Alina’s focus never wavered, either she was a master of masks, or her encounter with Jessica truly hadn’t fazed her. Either way, she didn’t look like someone in need of cheering up.
But beneath that calm exterior, he was certain she was hurting.
He decided to take matters into his hands and act.
With a casual flick, he slid his phone from his pocket and concealed it under the desk, thumbs flying over the
screen.
