Lucian groaned as the dull ache in his head pulled him from sleep. He rubbed his temples, wincing at the sharp pulse behind his eyes.
After finalizing the deal with the client the day before, the client insisted they celebrate, and the night quickly spiraled into heavy drinking.
The remnants of last night’s drinks still clung to his breath, and the distant sound of rain pounding against the windows made it worse.
He reached for his phone on the nightstand, blinking at the single notification lighting up the screen.
A message from Alina.
He clicked it open.
‘We are done. It’s over.
Lucian stared, the words sinking in slowly like venom seeping into a wound. His heart clenched violently in his chest.
“What the hell…?”
He sat up abruptly, his breathing uneven. Then, the hurt twisted into anger.
“Like hell we are!” He barked, already dialing her number with trembling fingers.
The call went straight to voicemail.
Again.
And again.
“Fucking hell!” he snapped, flinging the sheets off him. “ACE!”
The door opened almost immediately and Ace stepped in, eyes sharp and alert.
“Boss?”
“Tell the pilot to get the jet ready, We’re leaving. Now.”
He snatched his discarded pants from the floor, recalling how he’d stripped out of his clothes the night before after Ace brought him to his suite they had reeked of alcohol, and he’d collapsed into bed wearing only his boxer briefs. But now, he didn’t care about the lingering stench of liquor, All that mattered was getting back to Alina.
Ace blinked, hesitant. “Boss… no plane is flying in this weather. All flights are grounded.”

It was only then Lucian noticed the torrential downpour outside. Rain lashed violently against the glass, thunder rumbling in the distance.
“Fuck!” Lucian snarled, running both hands through his hair.
“Is everything okay, Boss?”
Lucian’s eyes burned. He wasn’t sure if it was from the hangover or the betrayal. Maybe both.
“How dare she…” he muttered under his breath. Then louder, “How dare she break up with me…”
He began pacing furiously. “The only thing that can separate us is death! If that’s what it takes, I’ll fucking cuff her to me. Lock her in a room if I have to but she’s not leaving me. She’s not…”
Ace frowned, confusion settling over his features.
That didn’t sound right.
When Alina had called last night, nothing in her voice suggested she was planning to break up. She had sounded… hurt maybe, but calm.
It didn’t make sense.
Lucian kept pacing, muttering in a low, dangerous tone.
“She cheats on me and thinks she can walk away? For what? That moron? No. She’s mine. I will fucking kill that bastard Grey, he can’t have her.”
He stabbed at the phone again, trying her number once more. Voicemail.
“Fucking pick up!” He roared.
“Ace,” he barked, “Call Jordan. Now.”
Ace already had his phone in hand. A few rings, and Jordan picked up. Ace put the call on speaker.
“Boss.” Jordan’s voice came through.
Lucian nearly snatched the phone from Ace. “Where is she?!”
“Miss Alina’s inside, sir.” Jordan already knew who the she he was referring to was.
“Go to the penthouse. Give her the phone.”
“On it, boss.”
Lucian resumed pacing, dragging a hand down his face as he waited. He could hear the annoying chime of elevator music from the phone and clenched his jaw tightly.
The music finally stopped.

Then came Jordan’s voice. “Miss Alina?” Knock. “Miss Alina, are you there?”
A pause.
“Lee,” Jordan called in the background, “Call the front desk. We might need the spare key.”
“What the hell is going on there?” Lucian snapped.
“She’s not responding, sir,” Jordan replied. “She’s not opening the door.”
“She’s probably in the bathroom!” Lucian bit out. “Knock harder!”
Jordan knocked again, louder this time, calling her name.
“Miss Alina are you in there?”
Lucian’s chest tightened. His fingers curled into fists.

Then he heard Jordan speaking to someone in the background again probably Lee. “They’re sending the spare key.”
“I don’t have time for that!” Lucian exploded. “Kick the fucking door down!”
