Silence settled in the room like a heavy fog. Lucian and Alina stood there, both staring,but not quite meeting each other’s eyes. Seconds stretched.

Then, at the same time, they both spoke.

“I’m sorry.”

Lucian’s voice softened, his eyes never leaving hers. “No… I’m sorry.” He made no move to approach her though.

Alina shook her head quickly, almost cutting him off. “No, I’m the one who’s sorry. I should have trusted you, Lucian. I should’ve known-” her voice caught, her lashes lowering as emotion flickered in her eyes, “—I should’ve known you’d never cheat on me. Not after everything. Not after the way you’ve loved me in the past.”

Something in Lucian’s expression wavered, the hard edge in his gaze dissolving into something raw. “And I shouldn’t have told you to stop working with Louis,” he admitted, his voice thick with regret. “I should’ve trusted you to handle it in your own way, at your own pace. Instead, I pushed, and I hurt you in the process.”

Alina’s fingers tightened at her sides, her voice dropping into a whisper. “I shouldn’t have hidden the fact that I was working with him. I should’ve told you from the start… even if I thought it might cause a fight. Keeping it from you only made everything worse.”

For a moment, the silence between them was almost fragile, like something that could either break or hold them together forever.

Lucian stepped forward, the heat of his presence closing the gap. “We both let pride get in the way,” he murmured. “But I need you to believe me now, nothing happened with Jessica.”

Alina’s eyes softened, though her chest still rose and fell with the remnants of anger. “I know,” she said quietly. “Now I know. I’m sorry I doubted you, Lucian… I just—” she exhaled shakily, “I needed to see it for myself, to be sure before I could believe it.”

His shoulders eased, the tension in his jaw loosening. “Don’t be sorry,” he told her, shaking his head. “I don’t blame you. If I saw something like that, I would’ve reacted exactly the way you did.”

For a moment, silence lingered between them, not the heavy, hostile kind from earlier, but something more fragile, something mending,

Lucian searched her face, then asked quietly, “So… what now?”

Alina’s lips curved into the faintest, dangerous smile. “Now…” she said slowly, “we deal with Jessica in a way she will never see coming.”

His brow arched, intrigue flickering in his eyes. “And what exactly do you have in mind?”

Lucian didn’t hesitate. Without a word, he stepped forward, closing the remaining distance and pulled her into his arms, holding her like she was the only thing keeping him grounded.

His grip was firm, almost desperate, his breath warm against the shell of her ear.

“I missed you too,” he whispered, the low rumble of his voice laced with exhaustion and longing. “I haven’t had a proper night’s sleep since… since we started this stupid fight.” His hand slid up her back, steady and reassuring. “Promise me, Doll. Promise me we’ll never let something like this, some misunderstanding, get between us again. No more fighting. Not like this.”

Her arms tightened around him, her cheek pressed to his chest, feeling the strong, steady beat of his heart. “I promise,” she breathed. “And I missed you so much. Lucian, when I thought you cheated… it felt like my heart was being ripped out of my chest. I’m sorry for all those times I kept running to Adrian. Now I know how you must have felt all those times. It’s… unbearable.”

She kept speaking, the words spilling out in a raw stream of confession, but before she could finish, Lucian cupped her face and crashed his mouth to hers.
