“Louis and Jessica are working together.“Alina’s voice was steady but laced with bitterness when she said it.
The words hung in the air, chilling, the line falling silent as if even Talia was momentarily struck speechless.
For a moment, silence stretched over the line until Talia’s sharp intake of breath cut through. “I’m sorry, what?” Her tone was incredulous, as though she believed she had misheard. “Repeat that, Alina. Please tell me I didn’t hear what I just heard.”
Alina closed her eyes, her jaw tight as she repeated herself. “Yes. Louis and Jessica are working together to sabotage me.”
Talia’s stunned gasp came through instantly. “What the fuck?” she blurted, her voice rising in disbelief. “Working together….as in what? You mean, like… business partners, or—”
“No.” Alina’s reply was firm, flat, and cold. “I mean it exactly how you think I mean. Louis has been secretly working with Jessica behind my back to ruin my relationship with Lucian.”
“Why though? Because it can’t be because he has a crush or has been in love with you. I never got that vibe from him.” Talia said.
“Honestly, I don’t know. Earlier he was acting like he was a better choice for me and not Lucian but I am honestly still shocked at the discovery. I can’t think of anything else right now.”
Talia was silent for a beat, then exhaled heavily. “Unbelievable. How? How the hell do you even know that?”
Alina’s tone wavered slightly, frustration and hurt intertwining. “I just left Louis’s house. After I stormed out of Lucian’s company, I thought to check up on him. The launch is in a few days, and I heard he was sick,he wasn’t answering my calls, so I decided to stop by. But before I could knock, I heard him on the phone. With Jessica.” Her eyes narrowed at the memory, her voice lowering in quiet fury. “She was telling him about what happened at Lucian’s company, every single detail. And Louis… he was saying how he’s going to make me fall in love with him, like I’m some kind of prize he’s plotting to win.”
Talia’s voice trembled between outrage and concern. “Alina, please tell me you confronted him. Tell me you didn’t just let that slide.”
Alina shook her head, bitterness tightening her chest. “No. I couldn’t. I didn’t want to jeopardize everything we’ve worked so hard for. So I pretended like I hadn’t heard anything. I walked in as if nothing happened.”
Talia groaned audibly on the other end. “Alina! That was dangerous! You should never have gone inside after hearing that. Do you even realize what kind of risk you were walking into?”
Alina let out a faint, weary sigh. “I’m fine. I needed to do it, and I’m glad I did. Louis doesn’t suspect a thing, that much I know. And for now, that works in our favor.”
There was a pause, then Talia muttered darkly, “God, I knew it. I swear Louis always rubbed me the wrong way, but I didn’t dig deeper. I should’ve trusted my gut instincts from the start.”

Her tone sharpened with frustration. “It’s always the handsome ones with skeletons in their closets. No wonder Lucian never liked him. He saw through him from the beginning.”
Alina pressed her lips together, the mention of Lucian making her chest tighten.
“Please tell me you’ve told Lucian.” Talia urged.
“No.” Alina’s response was quiet, heavy with hesitation. “Not yet. I will. I just… don’t even know how to start that conversation with him.”
Talia exhaled with exasperation. “Well, when you do, trust me, he’ll have a damn field day being right about Louis all along. But until then, Alina, you need to stay the hell away from Louis.”
