The call ended, but the weight of the revelation lingered in the room like a storm waiting to break.
Alina didn’t go back to her store after that. Instead, she went straight home, showered, and collapsed into bed. Exhaustion dragged her under until the sound of a car pulling up outside startled her awake. Her chest tightened. She already knew whose car it was.
She sat on the edge of the bed, waiting.
The door opened, and Lucian strode in. The moment his eyes fell on her, he closed the distance in long, purposeful strides. Without a word, he pulled her against him, wrapping her tightly in his arms. His scent, clean, masculine, with a faint trace of smoke and cologne, washed over her.
“God, I missed you,” he murmured against her hair, his voice low, rough with honesty. “It’s torture that I couldn’t even have lunch with you today.”
He leaned back slightly, brushing a thumb over her cheek, his expression softening. “You were brilliant, Alina. The act you pulled, impeccable. The rumors are already flying, people think Jessica and I have something going on. Everything is going exactly according to plan.”
His words kept spilling, warm and steady, but as he finally looked closer at her face, he stilled. His brows furrowed. “Doll…” His tone shifted, laced with concern. “What’s wrong?”
She forced a small smile. “I’m fine.”
Lucian searched her face, eyes narrowing. “You don’t look fine. Are you sure? Did something happen? Are you hungry?”
“Yes to all of the above…well except the last one.” She said quietly.
His frown deepened. “So you’ve eaten?”
“Yes”
“You’re not hungry?”
“No.”
“Something happened?”
Her throat tightened, but she held his gaze. “Yes.”
Lucian’s hand dropped from her cheek, his entire body tensing. “What’s going on?”
Her lips parted, trembling, before she finally whispered, “You were right… about Louis. You’ve always been right. I’m sorry for not listening, for letting him come between us.”

By the time she finished, Lucian’s jaw was clenched so tight she could see the muscle ticking furiously. His fists curled, his breathing sharp and heavy.
“Do you have any idea how reckless that was?” His voice thundered, sharp enough to make her flinch. “Alina, how could you step foot into that bastard’s house after what you discovered? Do you realize how dangerous that was for you?!”
She swallowed, trying to steady her voice. “Lucian-”
“No!” His eyes burned with rage. “I swear to God, I’m going to kill him. I’ll rip him apart with my bare hands. That son of a-”
“Lucian, stop.” Her hands pressed against his chest, her touch firm but gentle. “Calm down, please.”
“Calm down?” He barked a bitter laugh, shaking his head as he paced away, then back toward her. His voice dropped, deeper, darker. “He dared to play you. He dared to put you in danger. Alina, I’m going to skin him alive. He’ll learn a lesson he’ll never forget.”
Alina stepped forward, her eyes soft but unwavering. “Talia is already digging into him. And I know it, Lucian, there’s more to Louis than this. He’s too smart, too calculated, to just be helping Jessica ruin us. This goes deeper. I can feel it.”
Lucian’s chest heaved, but he snarled, “I don’t give a damn what it is. Whatever game he’s playing, it ends. I’ll
Before he could finish, Alina rose on her toes and pressed her lips to his.
The kiss silenced him. Her mouth was soft but insistent, stealing the words straight from his throat. She kissed him with desperation and tenderness, her fingers curling into his shirt as if anchoring herself to him. His anger melted into the warmth of her lips, into the unspoken plea she was pouring into the kiss.
