Now alone, Alina crossed her arms, her pulse quickening with anticipation. She tilted her head, studying Talia’s unreadable expression, her curiosity sharpening to a point.
“Well?” She pressed, her voice steady but her eyes searching. “What is it?”
Talia let out a quick breath, her expression tightening as if she’d just realized she had forgotten something important.
“Right…sorry.” She muttered, reaching into her jacket pocket. In one swift motion, she pulled out a small flash drive and hurried toward one of the computers.
Her fingers moved quickly, plugging it in and opening a file, the glow from the monitor reflecting in her sharp eyes.
Alina stood rigid behind her looking over her shoulder, her pulse racing as she watched Talia’s movements.
“What are you doing?” she asked, her voice trembling slightly, fear and curiosity tangled together as Talia began to type furiously and strange codes appeared on the screen.
“Showing you the truth about Louis but first I need to secure my access to this computer.” Talia said without looking up, her tone clipped but steady. “Let’s go to where it all started from shall we?”
Alina’s brow furrowed, her stomach knotting.
“What do
you mean-” Her words cut short as Talia turned the screen to her a moment later so she could see.
Alina’s breath caught in her throat as Talia pulled up the first clip. Video footage played, grainy but clear enough to recognize.
On the screen, Louis appeared at the gala months ago, stepping in and pulling Alina away from Adrian.
“This,” Talia said, her voice flat. “The night he played the hero. You remember it?”
Alina leaned in, her chest tightening. “Of course I do, it was the first time I saw him….. he saved me from Adrian.”
“Saved you?” Talia scoffed, her expression hardening. She clicked again, pulling up another file. The footage changed, Louis, days before the gala, lingering in the shadows, his gaze fixed on Alina as she walked through the city unaware.
Alina’s lips parted, her hand trembling as it pressed against her mouth. “He… he was stalking me?”
“Yes.” Talia’s tone was clipped, certain. “He was watching you long before that night. Nothing about his timing was a coincidence.”
Alina shook her head slowly, disbelief washing over her features. “No… it can’t be…” her lips parted in disbelief

as her face paled.
Talia’s eyes flicked toward her, softened briefly, then hardened again.

“It is, It wasn’t a coincidence, Alina. From the very beginning, Louis was watching you. “Talia said firmly, moving on to the next file. She tapped the screen, showing Alina a collection of documents. “And his name isn’t Louis. It’s Levi Gregory. ‘Louis Grey‘ is nothing but a fake identity he created.”
Levi? Alina couldn’t help but think that he didn’t look like a Levi at all.
Alina shook her head, confusion and fear clouding her features. “You mean… everything he told me… was a lie? He lied… about every single thing?”
“Everything,” Talia confirmed, her voice low and unyielding. She pulled up another set of records, scrolling through call logs. “And listen carefully, he wasn’t working with Jessica. He’s been using her.”
Alina blinked rapidly, trying to make sense of it. “Using her? What do
you mean?”
Without answering directly, Talia pulled up another file, an audio file. The mechanical, distorted voice of a man filled the room, followed by Louis’s voice, shaking, nervous, submissive.
The voice made the blood in Alina’s vein run cold. It was very familiar.
“I got into his phone records,” Talia explained over the playback. “He’s been speaking to someone who hides behind this mechanical voice. I couldn’t trace them, couldn’t get a name, couldn’t even run proper voice recognition because it’s always distorted. Every attempt to dig deeper gets blocked. But from the few conversations I managed to recover, it’s clear, Louis is working for this person.”
Alina stared at the screen, her heart pounding. “Works for him?”
“No, terrified of them is more appropriate.” Talia corrected.
Alina’s hands curled into fists in her lap. “Terrified?” she whispered.
It was a feeling she was familiar with because she was currently experiencing it.
“Listen to his voice.” She let another snippet play. Louis stammering, his tone laced with fear.”
“Whenever he talks to this person, his voice shakes. He bends to their will instantly, like he has no choice,” Talia explained. Her eyes narrowed on the screen, her expression grim. “You know what else?”
Alina’s throat tightened, dread pooling in her stomach. “What?”
“This person wants you, Alina. That’s why Louis has been trying to make you fall for him, to lower your guard, to make it easier to take you without a fight, you are his job. Whoever this is, they want you brought to them unharmed when the time comes. Louis or Levi whatever his fucking name is was planted by your side his appearance as an investor was carefully orchestrated.”
Alina recoiled, her chair scraping against the floor. “No… no, that’s not possible…I don’t understand.”
“I don’t understand either but it’s the truth.” Talia’s voice was unyielding, her gaze steady.
