Jessica sat frozen for a split second, her face paling before a dark flush overtook her. Fury churned in her chest as she shot to her feet, heels clicking sharply against the marble floor.
She stormed toward Alina, her voice dripping with venom as she hissed, “What do you think you’re doing?”
Alina pulled back slowly from Lucian, the faintest smile still lingering on her lips. Turning toward Jessica, her eyes gleamed with feigned innocence. “What do you mean?” She asked, her tone light, almost as if Jessica’s anger confused her.
Jessica’s face twisted, her voice rising just enough for nearby guests to catch every word. “It’s already obvious that Mr. Blackwood doesn’t want to have anything to do with you. So why are you forcing yourself on him?”
Lucian remained silent, his expression unreadable save for the single brow he arched. It was subtle but sharp, a quiet acknowledgement of the storm unraveling before him.
He kept to the promise Alina had wrung from him earlier, not to intervene, not to shield her.
This battle was hers to fight.
Alina’s gaze flicked back to Jessica, steady and calm, her voice smooth as silk. “And what makes you think Lucian doesn’t want anything to do with me?”
Jessica’s lips curled, bitterness seeping through her smile. “Did you not get the message from all those times you came to the company and Mr. Blackwood refused to see you? Why are you being so desperate? It’s not a good look on you.”
A ripple of murmurs stirred through the crowd, heads turning discreetly as whispers darted from one guest to another.
Alina’s posture didn’t falter; instead, her chin lifted slightly, her tone firm but not raised. “Jessica, you’re embarrassing yourself. You’re drawing attention to something unnecessary. Quit whatever drama it is you’re trying to create.”
Jessica let out a sharp, sarcastic laugh, her eyes narrowing with venom. “If there’s anyone who’ll be embarrassed today, it’s you. You’re the one throwing yourself at a man who clearly doesn’t want you.”
Alina’s smile was faint, but her eyes hardened, cutting through Jessica like a blade. “And who are you to say all
this to me?”
Straightening her shoulders, Jessica declared with false righteousness, “I’m Mr. Blackwood’s secretary. I have his best interests at heart. I’m only trying to protect him.”
The crowd shifted, whispers rising again-
“Protect him? From his fiancée?” …
“She’s just a secretary…”

Alina’s tone sharpened, the edges of steel slipping beneath her calm. “Lucian doesn’t need your protection. He has bodyguards for that. Tell me, Jessica, are you really trying to protect him, or do you just want me out of the way so you can step in and be Mrs. Blackwood yourself?”
For a brief moment, Jessica’s mask cracked. Her composure slipped, her eyes widening as color rushed into
her cheeks.
The crowd leaned in, watching like spectators to a duel.
She quickly recovered, forcing out a scoff. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Alina stepped forward slightly, her gaze locking on Jessica with merciless precision. Her voice cut through the hall, low but sharp enough to silence the hum of chatter. “You don’t know what I’m talking about? So the video of you and Lucian in the hotel room wasn’t meant to instigate a fight between him and me?”
Gasps erupted around the room, the weight of her words hitting like thunder. Guests who had pretended to mind their own business now turned fully, their stares openly fixed on the two women. Murmurs cascaded through the crowd, voices rising in scandalous tones.
“Did she just say hotel room?“…
“Wait is Mr. Blackwood having an affair with his secretary?“….
“Was she trying to sabotage them?” …
“She’s just a secretary, why is she this invested?”
Jessica froze, her face paling as the eyes of the entire room bore into her.
Her lips parting as if she’d been caught mid–lie. “I don’t… I don’t know what you’re talking about. What video?” She stammered, her voice rising, brittle with denial.
Alina’s laughter rang out, light and cutting, the kind that made Jessica’s denial sound even more absurd. “Are you dumb?” she asked smoothly, tilting her head slightly, her eyes gleaming with disdain. “Don’t you know when you send a video to someone, the person has a copy of it? I still have the video. And before you even think of putting on this innocent act, Lucian has already seen it.”
Jessica’s eyes widened in horror, her gaze snapping to Lucian as though silently begging for him to contradict Alina. But Lucian stood unmoving, his hands tucked into his pockets, expression unreadable, his face a blank mask, calm and detached, offering her nothing.
Jessica swallowed hard, panic flickering across her face before she quickly pulled herself together, her voice regaining false bravado. “So what?” She snapped.
The crowd gasp.
“So she admits to the accusation?“….
“Now I really want to see the video.”….
“This is better than any reality TV show.“…. Someone said amused.
