Chapter 181
AUTHOR’S POV.
Lucian’s patience snapped. His voice cut through the murmurs, cold and sharp as steel. “Get your hand off
me.”
Jessica froze. She knew better than to defy that tone. Her fingers trembled as she released him, though her lips kept moving, frantic, pleading. “Please… I can make you happy. I can-”
Alina stepped forward, her voice slicing through Jessica’s words. “You say you’re in love with Lucian, yet you’re sleeping with both the head of accounting and HR?”
The air shifted instantly. A collective gasp rippled through the crowd like a wave.
Jessica went rigid, her face draining of all color. “Stop…stop making accusations without proof,” she sputtered, her voice shaking.
Alina’s expression didn’t falter. Her tone was calm, deliberate. “Not only that, you’re also working with my business partner to sabotage my relationship with Lucian. Haven’t you heard? When you love someone, you want to see them happy.”
“Yes!” Jessica cried, her voice pitching high with desperation. “That’s exactly why I did it. Because Lucian deserves to be happy. And he’ll never be happy with you. You don’t deserve him!”
Alina tilted her head, her calm almost infuriating in contrast to Jessica’s unraveling. “Okay,” she said smoothly, then shifted her gaze toward Louis. Her voice sharpened. “What about you? What’s your excuse? Why were you working with Jessica to ruin my relationship? I thought you were my friend. I thought you cared about
me.”
The crowd collectively turned toward Louis, their whispers intensifying. Louis’s face tightened in controlled anger, eyes narrowing in shock that Alina knew.
Alina’s lips curved faintly. “Don’t look so surprised. You’re not the only one who can act.”
Louis’s voice came low, cautious. “How long have you known?”
“Not long,” Alina admitted, her tone deceptively light. “I found out a couple of days ago. The day I came to your house.”
His eyes turned to slits. “And you pretended not to know?”
Alina smirked, her voice laced with quiet mockery. “Do I look stupid? Did you think I’d blow my cover and let you know I’d figured it out? So what, you could harm me?”
Louis flinched, caught off guard, then quickly regained his composure. His voice softened, laced with false sincerity. “I could never harm you. I did all of this because I love you.”
Lucian’s jaw tightened, his teeth grinding as his gaze cut sharply toward Louis, rage simmering beneath his controlled exterior.

Alina laughed bitterly. Love, she thought, the word tasting like ash. She knew better. She knew Louis wasn’t doing this for love, he was working for someone else, someone who wanted her abducted.
But she kept that knowledge to herself. Instead, her eyes hardened as she said aloud, “It’s a good thing our contract is over. I never want to see you near me again.”
She didn’t wait for his reaction, she was done with him, now he was Lucian’s cup of tea and she wished him luck with that because he will be sorry by the time Lucian was done with him.
