Chapter 215
AUTHOR’S POV.
The suite in the mansion where Alina was getting ready was alive with quiet chatter, the rustle of brushes, and the hum of hairdryers.
Lucian had organized a whole team for her even when she told him it wasn’t necessary but the truth was he knew she would end up making them late if she was to handle her makeup herself.
Alina sat still, her eyes closed as a makeup artist dabbed at the last touches of powder. Across the room, Lucian paced with a phone to his ear, voice clipped as he spoke to an investor.
Alina sighed inwardly. Only Lucian would still be handling business calls on the evening of his own company’s dinner.
“Done.” The makeup artist murmured, stepping back. She gently turned Alina’s chair toward the mirror.
Alina’s eyes flickered open, and her breath caught. The makeup was light, but it illuminated every one of her features. Her eyes were sharper, her cheekbones delicate and her lips soft with color. A pleased smile tugged at her lips.
“I love it.” Alina breathe out, making the makeup artist smile wider.
Lucian, glancing over mid–conversation, pulled the phone from his ear briefly. “I’ll be downstairs waiting,” he said, his eyes lingering on her a second longer than necessary. “Need to sort out some work first.”
Alina arched a brow but nodded. “Go ahead. Though I’ll never understand how you still have work tonight of all nights.”
He only smirked faintly and left the room, his voice already returning to a business tone as the door clicked behind him.
Not long after, Alina’s phone lit up with a FaceTime call. Seeing Talia’s name, she answered uickly.
The redhead’s face filled the screen, and she let out a high–pitched squeal. “Oh my God! Look at you!”
Alina laughed as Talia all but pressed her face to the camera.
“Your makeup is amazing,” Talia gushed, her eyes darting to the woman styling Alina’s hair in the background. “You did a wonderful job.” She added loudly.
The stylist grinned. “Thank you.”
“What are you even doing?” Alina asked, amused.
“Getting my nails done, obviously,” Talia said with a grin, holding up her hand where a manicurist was painting a glossy shade.
Alina groaned, tilting her head. “So you’ll be late. I’ll end up waiting alone.”

“Oh, relax,” Talia waved her free hand dismissively. “I’ll be early, promise. You worry too much.”
“You’d better,” Alina warned, narrowing her eyes playfully. “Or else I won’t forgive you.”

Talia clutched her chest dramatically. “Threats before a party? Savage.” They both laughed before saying their goodbyes.
Ten minutes later, Alina’s team finished. They carefully helped her into her gown, smoothing the fabric and fastening delicate clasps. She caught her reflection once more, she looked stunning, regal, but still herself. Satisfied, she grabbed her purse before heading downstairs.
Lucian was still on his phone when she entered the foyer. But when he looked up, the words died in his throat. His jaw literally dropped, and the young makeup artist trailing behind Alina stifled a giggle.
The voice on the other end of the call spoke, “Mr. Blackwood? Are you listening?”
Lucian didn’t even blink. “Let’s pick this up later.” He muttered, hanging up without hesitation or giving the person a chance to respond.
His gaze swept over Alina slowly, reverently. “You look… breathtaking doll.”
Color rushed into her cheeks, and she ducked her head slightly. “Thank you babe.”
But he didn’t move. He just stood there, staring, as though forgetting entirely about the dinner. Alina blushed deeper, shifting on her feet. “Lucian… can we leave?”
Her voice finally snapped him out of it. He blinked, gave a soft huff of laughter, and nodded. “Right. Of course. Let’s go.”
Outside, Jordan already had the car waiting. With Ace picking up Talia separately, it was Jordan and Lee who would drive Alina and Lucian tonight. The city lights glimmered in the distance as they stepped out together, ready to head into the night.
The ride to the venue was smooth, the city lights painting golden streaks across the windo quietly beside Lucian. Her gown shimmered faintly under the dim car light, and Lucian k at her as though she might disappear if he looked away too long.

When they arrived, they were ushered into the grand ballroom, all chandeliers and polished marble. Their reserved seats were placed at the front, right beside Damien’s. He was already seated, his posture perfectly straight, an unreadable calm in his expression.
