Chapter 218
AUTHOR’S POV.
“Hey baby, I am here, you are safe.” Ace’s voice was so gentle even Lucian was momentarily stunned.
Lucian turned back to Lee. “Did you call an ambulance?”
“No, boss,” Lee answered quickly, his posture straight and professional. “I didn’t want to draw attention.”
Lucian gave a curt nod, his eyes narrowing slightly in approval. “Smart.”
From behind, Damien’s voice broke the tension. “Let me take a look.” He stepped closer, calm but resolute.
Lucian gave him a look.
Damien sighed “My family runs a pharmaceutical company, we come from a line of medical professionals remember? I know what to check for.”
Lucian hesitated for a fraction of a second before nodding once. “Fine, go ahead.”
Even though he didn’t want Damien touching Alina, Damien was indeed a medical prodigy and Alina’s health came first for Lucian.
Damien crouched beside Alina, his movements careful, practiced. He tilted her head slightly, checked her breathing, then leaned closer for a brief moment before pulling back with a steady exhale. “Chloroform,” he said grimly. “She was knocked out, but she’ll be fine. She just needs time.”
Relief flickered in Lucian’s chest, but it did little to temper the storm still raging inside him. His hand brushed lightly over Alina’s hair, a silent promise passing through his touch. He lifted his gaze back to Damien. “Thank you.”
Without wasting another moment, Lucian slid his arms beneath Alina and lifted her effortlessly against his chest, holding her as though she were the most fragile thing in the world.
“Jordan,” Lucian ordered, his voice cutting through the air, “make sure the back door is secured for us.” His gaze shifted to Lee. “Clean the mess off that mirror. Every trace.”
“Yes, sir.” Both men replied, already moving into action.
With Alina in his arms, Lucian strode out of the restroom, his expression set in stone. Ace guided a trembling Talia close behind, his voice low and steady as he murmured reassurances to her.
The group slipped into motion like a shadowed unit, leaving no room for hesitation.
Jordan’s voice crackled low through his earpiece as he pushed through the crowd with practiced ease. “Boss, the back door is clear. I’ve secured the exit. No one’s near.”
Lucian adjusted his grip on Alina, holding her close as if shielding her from the world. Her head rested against his chest, her breathing shallow but steady. His jaw clenched, fury and protectiveness twisting inside
him.
“Good,” Lucian replied curtly. “We’re moving now.”
Ace followed right at his side, one arm firmly guiding Talia, who still trembled violently, her wide eyes darting around the hallway as though she feared danger at every turn.
“…I didn’t hear anyone,” she stammered weakly, her voice almost breaking. “It just happened so fast. She…. she fell and-”
“Shhhh. Don’t push yourself,” Ace said gently, cutting her off, his tone softer than usual. “You’re safe. Just
breathe.”
Jordan met them halfway down the corridor, his gaze flickering to Alina in Lucian’s arms. His throat tightened but he masked it with a soldier’s composure. “Car’s waiting. Side alley. No one will see.”
Lucian gave a short nod, his voice like steel. “Good work.”
Behind them, Lee’s voice came low through the comm, steady but firm. “Message cleared. No sign of anyone near the window. I’ll stay back to double–check.”
Lucian’s eyes darkened, though he didn’t slow his stride. “Make sure no trace remains.”
The group
moved swiftly, each footstep echoing against the quiet service hallway until they reached the back door. Jordan pushed it open, scanning the dimly lit alley before giving a sharp nod.
“Clear.”
Lucian shifted Alina slightly, holding her more securely against him. For the first time since the incident, his expression softened, his lips brushing close to her temple as though whispering a vow only she could hear.
