Chapter 220
AUTHOR’S POV.
Lucian’s jaw tightened, a low growl in his chest. “Dammit.”
The single word carried his frustration, his fury and his promise that whoever had done this would regret it.
Lucian’s gaze lingered on the blurred footage a moment longer before he leaned back, his jaw tight. His voice was low, controlled, but carried a dangerous edge. “Whoever she is, she isn’t working alone. She’s working for him.”
Ace lifted his head. “Are you certain Boss?”
Lucian’s eyes hardened. “It has to be him. No one else would dare test me like this. No one else has the guts to come this close.”
Talia swallowed, still hugging her arms around herself. “But… if she wanted to take Alina, why didn’t she? Why leave her behind after going through all that trouble?”
Lucian turned his piercing gaze toward her, his tone matter–of–fact. “Because she couldn’t. Unless that woman was a trained mercenary, there’s no way she could have carried Alina through that window on her own. She didn’t plan to take her, she only meant to scare us.”
Talia slowly nodded, her brows knitting as she replayed the scene in her mind. “That… actually makes sense. Even though it’s just the first floor, it’s still high. That ladder didn’t look sturdy enough for two people, especially not when one’s unconscious. Unless someone was waiting below to help her.” She shook her head. “But the footage only ever showed the woman.”
Lucian’s expression darkened. He turned sharply to Ace. “Bring back the Shadows.”
Ace froze, then gave a short nod. “I’ll get right on it boss.” He stepped aside, already pulling out his phone and typing quickly, his jaw set with determination.
The Shadows were a group of men so skilled they could blend with any crowd, watch unseen, move unnoticed. Lucian had dismissed them months ago, a choice he now saw as a mistake.
Lucian shifted his gaze to Lee. “What material was used on the mirror?”
Lee, standing at attention, responded evenly. “It looked like lipstick mixed with something else. I collected samples for testing to see if there’s any DNA trace.”
Lucian’s brows lifted faintly. One thing he was beginning to notice and like about Lee was that although the man didn’t talk much, he got the job done and did the needful without being told to.
“Good thinking.” His approval was clear, though his tone remained clipped. “How soon will the results be ready?”
“I had the lab already working on it tonight,” Lee replied. “So….. We should have the results by morning at the latest.”
HEY
A satisfied hum left Lucian as he leaned back against the couch, his fingers steepled. “Good. Once we know who she is, we can find her. And if we can get our hands on her, she’ll lead us straight to him.” His eyes glinted coldly. “Women are easier to break, no offense.” He said the last part turning to Talia.
“None taken.” Talia responded not taking offense to his words. She knew Lucian’s method and knows that even a grown ass man would break under the torture, least of all a woman.
Unless the woman was a trained mercenary, she would definitely break because women were not designed to endure pain for long.
Ace returned then, slipping his phone into his pocket. “It’s done. The Shadows are already in motion.”
Lucian gave a single sharp nod, his chest rising and falling with the faintest relief. At least, for now, Alina’s safety was secured.
Lucian leaned forward, his elbows resting on his knees, voice carrying the weight of finality. “There’s nothing more we can do tonight. Talia, you can pick any of the guest rooms upstairs and get some rest.”
