And then-
A voice broke the silence.
“It was Jessica.”
Every muscle in the room stilled.
The voice was unmistakable….Alina’s.

The atmosphere shifted instantly, charged and suffocating, as though the walls themselves braced for the storm that was about to come.
Every head turned sharply toward the staircase, confusion and shock flashing across their faces as they tried to wrap their minds around the words they had just heard.
Alina stood there, her hand lightly grazing the banister as she descended step by step, her movements slow but steady. The soft light from the chandelier spilled over her face, revealing her tired yet calm expression despite the weight of her words.
“Alina!” Talia gasped, the first to say move. She rushed forward, her eyes wide with concern as she reached her. “Are you okay? Does anything hurt?”
Alina managed a faint smile, shaking her head gently. “I’m fine, Talia.” Her voice was soft, but steady enough to bring a flicker of relief.
But Talia’s guilt surfaced almost immediately, her voice trembling as she began to apologize. “I’m so sorry about what happened…if I had just—”
Alina blinked at her, visibly confused. “Why are you apologizing?” Her brows knitted lightly as she tilted her head. Then, after a pause, she asked, “Wait… did you plan what happened with Jessica?”
Talia recoiled as if struck, her tone sharp with disbelief. “Of course not!”
“Good.” Alina’s voice softened but carried quiet firmness. “Then stop apologizing because that wasn’t your fault.”
Talia opened her mouth, words teetering on the edge of protest before fading into silence. Slowly, she nodded, her throat tightening as she stepped back to give space.
Lucian had been standing motionless all this while, giving the women time to catch up but his gaze never left Alina’s figure. He could barely contain the storm in his eyes. When the space cleared, he moved forward without hesitation, pulling her into his chest.
The rigid tension in his body melted the moment he felt her warmth against him. He buried his face into her hair, his voice low, almost broken, murmuring words only she could hear–relief spilling out in fragments that barely made sense but carried every ounce of his fear.

Lucian pulled her into his chest, his arms tightening around her as though he might lose her if he let go. He buried his face into her hair, his voice low, rough, and trembling with emotion.
Baid.
“I’m so glad you’re okay,” he murmured, his breath unsteady against her. “I was so fucking scared, Alina… I was losing my mind.” His arms tightened further, his tone breaking under the weight of everything he hadn’t “Don’t ever scare me like that again. I can’t-” He stopped himself, the words cutting off into silence, his throat tight.
Alina’s hand pressed gently against his chest, her voice calm, meant to soothe. “I’m okay, Lucian. I promise.”
He pulled back just enough to scan her, his eyes trailing over every inch of her frame as though searching for hidden wounds. Even after a full minute, his jaw remained taut, unwilling to let go of his scrutiny.
Finally, he guided her gently toward the couch, lowering her to sit and signaling for a glass of water, which was quickly placed in her hands. Only once she was settled did he break the silence again, his voice quieter but weighted.
“Alina,” he said, holding her gaze, “are you certain it was Jessica who knocked you out?”
Alina set the glass down after a small sip, her fingers trembling slightly as she placed it back on the table. She drew in a steadying breath before speaking. “Yes,” she said firmly, her eyes locking with Lucian’s. “The woman who knocked me out… was Jessica.”
Lucian’s brows pulled together, his expression unreadable at first. “Are you absolutely sure?” he asked carefully, his voice low, almost cautious. “You were knocked out with chloroform. Maybe you were a little dazed, confused-”
Alina shot him a sharp glare, her tone cutting through him. “Is it that you don’t believe me, Lucian? Or is it because it was Jessica?”
His jaw tightened instantly. He shook his head, meeting her eyes with unflinching seriousness. “Of course I believe you.” He exhaled heavily, running a hand through his hair as if trying to ground himself. “I only asked because…” His voice trailed for a second before he admitted, “Because I’m shocked she’d have the audacity to attack me like this.”
There was a beat of silence before he leaned closer, his tone softer now. “I’m sorry if it came out like I was doubting you. I wasn’t. I’m just… surprised, that’s all.”
