Rebirth Of The Heiress And The Tycoon's Lover (Alina) novel Chapter 42

Chapter 42

AUTHOR’S POV.

“Well, let’s see what they want then, shall we.” Lucian said to Ace. Then he turned to Alina. “I’ll be right back, doll. Eat as much as you want, and don’t wander too far.”

“Okay.” She said, smiling up at him, even though she didn’t want him to leave.

She had already spotted her adopted parents and was doing her best to avoid them. She knew the only reason they hadn’t approached her yet was because Lucian was by her side.

She hadn’t seen them since the night of the engagement, and she was perfectly fine with that. They were leeches, and tonight, she wasn’t in the mood to deal with them.

“Don’t worry. I’ll try to make it quick.” Lucian murmured, placing a gentle, reassuring kiss on her forehead after catching the hesitant look on her face.

He didn’t want to leave her alone either. He was quite aware that the moment he walked away, those thirsty-looking men would swarm her.

“Okay.” She nodded, her eyes glued to him as he walked away.

It didn’t take long before Silas and Elena Dawn approached her.

“Alina.” Elena’s voice rang behind her, smooth but laced with tension.

Alina took a slow breath, put on her well-practiced fake smile, and turned around.

“Hi Mom, Dad.” She greeted them sweetly.

“What kind of daughter neglects her family?” Silas asked. “Oh, because you’re now engaged to Blackwood, you think you’re better than us?” He snarled in a low tone trying not to draw any attention to them.

Oh, most definitely, Alina thought.

“Of course not, Dad. Why would you think that?” She replied, putting on a sad face and pouty lips. “Lucian has just been breathing down my neck, so I haven’t had the chance to come home.”

“Well, you seem to be enjoying it, because you looked pretty cozy earlier.” Elena commented, her voice heavy with bitterness.

Oh shut up, you selfish bitch, Alina wanted to snap, but she bit her tongue.

She knew Elena had always wished it was her biological daughter engaged to Lucian and not her. Thanks to Seraphina’s confession before her death in Alina’s previous life, she knew everything. All the niceness they used to show her, it was all fake.

“I have to behave myself, Mom, or else Lucian won’t give me anything I ask for.” She said, baiting them.

“Have you spoken to him about the project I talked about?” Silas took the bait, his interest piquing immediately.

“Yes, Dad.” She lied effortlessly.

She had, in fact, forgotten that they had such a conversation before her rebirth.

“Then you have to be a good girl and do everything he asks, okay?” Silas’s voice took a sweet tone as he grabbed her hands.

Greedy bastard, Alina thought.

“But Dad-”

“No buts, Alina. Listen to your father and be a good girl, okay? Don’t get distracted by that Adrian boy for now,” Elena interrupted her.

Oh wow. Alina never thought she’d see the day Elena would utter those words. Normally, she and Seraphina had always encouraged her to defy Lucian and be with Adrian instead.

“Whatever you say, Mom.” She said, forcing another smile.

“Good. We’ll be awaiting your good news.” Silas said with a satisfied nod:

“We have to go socialize now. Don’t forget what we just said.” Elena added.

“I won’t.” Alina responded politely.

Satisfied with her responses, they walked away.

“Finally.” She breathed out, rolling her eyes as soon as their backs were turned.

Talking to them had sucked the energy out of her.

From the corner of her eye, she noticed Seraphina eyeing her, eyes filled with barely contained jealousy, but Alina pretended not to notice.

Seraphina could die from jealousy for all she cared. Tonight wasn’t about her.

Alina decided to socialize too. She couldn’t let the opportunity go to waste.

Since most of the young ladies present wanted to sleep with her man, she made a deliberate choice to engage with the older women instead.

And just as she imagined, they were an absolute delight.

“You’re good for that Blackwood boy.” One of the women she was standing with said warmly, eyeing her with approval.

“I know right? He is always so uptight, but he seemed so relaxed today.” Another one spoke, making Alina smile.
