His reaction left them somewhat taken aback. William was somewhat doubtful, "You're not actually interested in that woman, are you?"
"Why not?" replied Stefan.
Lambert put down his wine glass, smiled, and said jokingly, "Then I'll look forward to the good news. As for the punishment for losing, we can discuss that next time."
With that, he got up to leave.
George asked, "You're leaving so soon?"
Lambert looked at his wristwatch, saying, "It's past seven, and I, too, have a wife."
Him, "...."
When he returned home, Ariana had already gone to bed.
However, when Lambert entered, she still heard him in her drowsy state.
After a while, Lambert came out of the bathroom and lay down next to her, and Ariana stiffened instinctively.
It was only when there was no more movement from his side that Ariana finally exhaled slightly.
Even though she has shared the bed with Lambert before, this kind of thing is usually hard to get used to.
Just when she was relaxing her guard, suddenly a hand reached over and wrapped around her waist.
"Pretending to sleep? Hm?"
The deep voice was laced with a hint of jest, startling her.
After reacting, Ariana clenched her teeth and removed the unruly hand from her waist, "You're the one who woke me up!"
Watching the anger-filled Ariana in his arms, Lambert released a temptation, "Do you want to know about Stefan?"
She indeed paused for a moment, curiously looking at him, "What about Stefan?"
Lambert informed Ariana about the people's betting, and she was somewhat surprised, "I think there might be a chance."
He curled his lips and said, "I think it's impossible."
She raised her eyebrows at him, "Why?"
Lambert leisurely added, "Not just me, everyone else thinks the same."
When Ariana heard him say that, she rolled her eyes at him and grabbed the quilt intending to sleep on the sofa. Unexpectedly, she was caught around the waist by Lambert and pressed down on the bed.
"What are you doing? Let me go!"
He smirked and held her tight, "Not letting go!"
Ariana snorted, "Didn't you not want to deal with me during the day? Why are you in the mood to talk to me now?"
Lambert raised an eyebrow, "When did I not want to deal with you?"
After Ariana had spoken with Stefan in the morning, Lambert had been contemplating due to his doubts about Ariana's intentions. He had not considered angering Ariana.
Ariana couldn't bother dealing with him, "You get out of the way!"
He didn't move away, angering Ariana. She used all her strength to kick Lambert, yelling, "Get off me!"
Unexpectedly, Lambert didn't dodge and actually fell off the bed.
She was taken aback, and just as she was about to help him up, she was caught in the act by the newly arrived Jolene and Old Mrs. Stone, who both wore surprised expressions.
"You two... had another fight?"
They had knocked on the door earlier but received no reply. However, they heard some noises inside because the door wasn't properly closed, so they entered. To their surprise, as soon as they came in, they saw Lambert had been shoved off the bed.
Old Mrs. Stone said, "Then you should go to sleep. We won't disturb you anymore."
Jolene simply smiled faintly without saying anything.
After they left, Ariana rushed to close the door and let out a sigh of relief.
Looking at Lambert on the bed, she couldn't help but say, "I can't stand it anymore, drinking these things every day. Can't we just be honest and tell them we don't want children now?"
More than anything, seeing their expectations, Ariana felt guilty.
Snow-white sheets framed Lambert, who was lazily leaning on his hand while looking at her. He spoke in a detached voice, "Once the first lie is told, it's inevitable that new lies are needed to cover it."
Ariana gulped and fell silent for a moment.
He was right. Ever since their sham wedding, she indeed...
Lambert saw her feeling so distressed and said with a smirk, "Actually... there is indeed a way to completely end the lies!"
Upon hearing his words, she paused, "..."
His meaning wasn't difficult to guess - if she and Lambert could form a genuine marriage, they could put an end to the lies.
Ariana fell silent for quite a while before she slowly spoke, "Let me think."
Lambert didn't say anything further, but he knew Ariana had started to waver.
Ariana was still thinking about Lambert's proposition when they turned off the lights to sleep. She could barely sleep, and it felt as though the medicine she drank earlier was beginning to take effect. It was as if a small flame was burning in her chest, and a puzzling inferno was assaulting her consciousness.
She couldn't help but push Lambert next to her, uneasily asking, "Don't you feel... it's getting hotter?"
This dose seemed to be more potent than the previous tonic. Even though she was utterly conscious at the moment, she felt an incredible torment.
Lambert didn't respond, so she extended her arm and gave him a soft push, her voice was weak yet charming, "Lambert..."
