Fanny was suddenly filled with ecstatic joy.
After quickly expressing her excitement by hugging Ariana, she returned to her seat at a pace as quick as a rocket.
Ariana just smiled and shook her head.
The other students saw Fanny and Ariana's exchange but had no idea what they were talking about. However, that didn't stop some of them from glancing at Ariana. After all, Ariana was the hottest topic in their class lately, whether for her recent dealings with Beverly from Lawrence's Corporation or for becoming the General Manager of White Corporation at such a young age - all of which was their prime topic of discussion during leisure time.
Some were envious and some were just onlookers.
But most of all, they envied Ariana for becoming the General Manager of such a large company as White Corporation while she was still in college.
There weren't many classes that day, and after finishing her last class, Ariana began to pack up her books to leave.
Just then, a female classmate walked up to Ariana. She smiled at Ariana and said, "Ariana, there's a mixer with Z University tonight. You should come, too. I know I should have told you earlier, but you've been on vacation... so..."
If she hadn't mentioned it, Fanny would have almost forgotten about it.
So, Fanny quickly chimed in, "Yes, there's a mixer tonight. Ariana, let's go together."
Ariana looked at the other students who were either looking their way or feigning conversation while really paying attention to their interaction. She smiled lightly, "No, I have to go home. Next time." These so-called mixers were actually parties for making friends.
To be more precise, they were parties prepared for the single students of the colleges.
Generally speaking, whether it was a girl or a boy, they wouldn't refuse when hearing about a mixer, as it offered the chance to meet students of the opposite sex from different campuses.
Who knows, they might hit it off!
But Ariana was different... Ariana was now a married woman and had no interest in these mixers. She would rather spend that time reviewing her company's recent operations. There were few people she could trust in the company, and most things required her personal attention.
When she wasn't at school, Ariana spent almost all day immersed in work at her company.
Where could she find the time to attend this kind of class union?
The girl who invited her was instantly put in an awkward position. She was the class's study representative and also held a small position in the student council. Naturally, she felt embarrassed by Ariana's decline. Never before had anyone denied her request, and this was something she simply couldn't stomach.
However, before she could say anything, the rest of her classmates also revealed similar expressions.
A girl with a ponytail even sneered directly, "What? Does Miss White look down upon our simple mixer?" In truth, she couldn't be bothered to invite Ariana. It was one thing for them to exclude Ariana but another for Ariana to decline their invitation.
Fanny could sense that something was off.
So, she hurriedly attempted to mediate, "Everyone, stop arguing. Maybe Ariana has something to do at home. Besides, we didn't inform her in advance about this." Then she looked at the girl who initially invited Ariana, giving her a slight smile, "Lexie, it was my mistake for not notifying Ariana in advance."
Lexie Raymond, who was given a chance to save face, instantly relaxed a bit. She chuckled and responded, "How could I blame you? However, I assumed you would have told Ariana... No worries, If Ariana's truly busy, we can get together next time."
She turned her head to look at Ariana, her smile faint.
In reality, she had no genuine intentions of inviting Ariana but felt obligated due to the mixer committee consistently inquiring about Ariana, a notable character in their class.
It felt a bit like dealing with primary school students...
This was what Ariana thought internally.
However, on the surface, she didn't reveal any emotions. Her eyes twinkled slightly and after a moment of contemplation, she suddenly broke into laughter, and said, “Since everyone is extending such a heartfelt invitation, I won't dampen the mood. If it’s a class reunion meeting, then let's go."
Lexie's face subtly changed.
A trace of fleeting regret flashed through her eyes, but she hid it so quickly that no one else noticed.
In their department, Ariana was considered the department's beauty. However, due to her being extremely busy, she rarely made appearances other than during classes. This allowed Lexie to become the most popular girl in the department. She didn't expect Ariana to change her mind suddenly.
She thought to herself with some annoyance, 'I wouldn't have invited her if I had known that Ariana would agree.'
Yet, she couldn't let this annoyance show on her face. So, pulling up the corners of her mouth, she said, "That's great, then. Let's all meet at box 305 in Nightshade at seven-thirty tonight."
Ariana did not object. After a simple "OK", she picked up her book and calmly walked out the door.
Fanny had yet to recover from the earlier incident. Once she had, she hurriedly followed after Ariana.
Lexie watched their retreating figures, her lips tightening slightly.
At this moment, the pony-tailed girl who had earlier defended Lexie approached. With a cold and triumphant laugh, she said, "It seems that Lexie, you are indeed influential. Look, Ariana finally agreed, didn't she?"
