Then, Ariana let out a light laugh. She turned her head towards her mother, who was looking rather worried, and asked, "How is Jane's leg from the fall? Will it recover in the future?"
Seeing that her daughter was not angry but was more concerned about Jane's leg, Georgia felt as if a huge stone had been lifted from her heart.
Yet at the same time, her guilt towards her daughter intensified.
She sighed, "The doctor says it might affect her walking in the future."
After a long pause, Georgia continued, "Ariana... Although your father has already called to talk to you about this, I know this matter is unfair to you. What Jane did in the past was truly inexcusable. However, she has no one else left. All she has now is your father, me, and you as her relatives. Despite her significant wrongdoings, we can not just watch her be alone and uncared for. That's why we are considering bringing her home and taking good care of her. Ariana, your father, and I don't wish for you to be angry over this."
Ariana quietly nodded, and a bitter smile appeared on her face. "Mom, what kind of person do you take me for?" she asked.
Georgia was caught off guard and tried to explain she didn't mean anything else.
However, Ariana shook her head, cutting Georgia short. She softly said, "It's okay. I understand what you and Dad are trying to say. I am indeed still angry about what Jane has done in the past, but she is in this condition now. Even if it's not you, I can't just watch as she's left alone in the hospital. I will be fine as long as she focuses on her studies and stops doing what she did before. What I really wish for is for her to correct her ways. After all, she is my sister. I don't want her to continue down this path."
Before Georgia could respond, a relieved voice came from the stairway; it was Gilbert.
He repeated 'good' a few times before slowly making his way down. His face was a mix of surprise and relief as he looked at his eldest daughter. His eyes were full of love and guilt.
"Your way of thinking has certainly relieved us," Gilbert said. "Enough about this, let's not talk about this anymore. Jane misses you a lot. You should go and talk to her. Let her know you're not blaming her anymore. Perhaps it will make her feel better and help with her recovery."
Ariana nodded, "Alright."
Then, she slowly stepped towards Jane's bedroom. The couple who didn't quite know how to read Ariana's feelings looked at their daughter's retreating figure, their eyes filled with relief.
Gilbert turned to his wife and said, "Ariana has grown up."
Georgia gently laughed, "Indeed. Ariana is becoming more and more like an adult. After all, she is already married."
Gilbert nodded and continued, "Let's go upstairs too, lest Jane doesn't know what to say. Let's take this opportunity to mediate between the two of them and strive to bring their sisterly relationship back to its previous state."
Georgia neither agreed nor disagreed. She quite liked this proposal.
Every parent's greatest wish is to see their children getting along well. Only, that's something they probably will never see again.
The hatred from their previous lives made it impossible for Ariana and Jane to reconcile. Letting her off once had already been the biggest concession Ariana had made previously.
It was a pity that Jane never cherished this.
...
Upon hearing this, Jane showed a weak smile, but a hint of gloom persisted in her eyes. She murmured, "But I can't dance anymore..." As she spoke, tears began to well up in her eyes. "That has been my dream since childhood, but I can never step onto the stage again."
This situation was unbearably painful for Mr. and Mrs. White.
Georgia consoled her repeatedly, "Even if you can't dance anymore, you can still do a lot of other things. You're so young, things will get better."
Red-eyed, Jane looked up, "But I don't know what to do in the future. Right now, I don't dare to go to school when I think about the looks of my classmates after my injury is healed. Auntie, can I transfer to the same department as my sister? I am already useless... If I continue in our department, I will certainly be laughed at."
Seeing Jane on the verge of tears, Georgia sighed and reassured her, "Okay, once you're healed, I'll have your uncle arrange it."
Gilbert also nodded in agreement.
Due to their sympathy for Jane, they didn't think too much, unaware of Jane's true thoughts. However, Ariana had guessed. Her major was Business Administration. Before, Jane did not choose Business Administration to make others think she only liked arts. Now, with the leg injury as a cover, her proposal to transfer to the same department as Ariana would not raise any suspicions.
But what about her post-graduation plans?
With a degree in Business Administration, her most likely future would be joining White Group.
And that was exactly Jane’s objective.
