In the end, Gilbert handed over all the evidence to the police and filed charges against the person who had manipulated Jane. After all, if he didn't take this step, the company would still be doomed. Only by apprehending the mastermind behind the scenes and compensating the White Group for its losses could the company have a chance to recover. However, this would only partially mitigate the damage. The repercussions of the scandal would be difficult to reverse. If things went well in the future, the company might survive, but if not, the White Group could very well spiral into decline.
Kiara also learned about the incident... Even though she was at school, it was impossible for her not to hear about such a major event. When she found out, she was completely stunned and unsure about what to do. Jane had justified her actions by claiming that Gilbert and his wife had embezzled her parents' inheritance, which was why she had resorted to such extreme measures.
Although Gilbert and his wife had explained everything that night, Jane, whose mind had already become twisted, refused to believe them. She was convinced they were just trying to evade responsibility. After all, if the "truth" she had clung to was false, then what did all her actions amount to? Had she just sabotaged herself? She couldn't accept that.
So, in her mind, Gilbert and his wife had to be guilty. They had adopted her with ulterior motives! Even when Kiara went to visit her, Jane repeated the same accusations. She insisted that Kiara should know that Gilbert and his wife had stolen their parents' inheritance.
Kiara was in a state of panic, her mind blank. She didn't understand why Jane had done what she did, so she went straight to the detention center to confront her. When she got the answer, Kiara felt nothing but disbelief. She thought it was impossible. She had always been sensitive to people's intentions and knew who truly cared for her.
She could feel it. She genuinely believed her uncle and aunt's love for her was real. Even if they had been managing her parents' inheritance, she wouldn't have demanded it back. After all, over the years, Jane's expenses in the White household had likely already consumed most of it. They had searched for her for so many years and had taken such good care of her. The costs were incalculable. Even if they had taken the inheritance, it would have been a small token of her gratitude.
Besides, there was no inheritance to begin with.
The butler had informed Kiara. He had witnessed Gilbert and Georgia's distress due to Jane's actions. To prevent Kiara from misunderstanding and possibly following in Jane's footsteps, he explained the circumstances of that year.
Kiara was now in deep anguish. She longed to return to the White family, which she felt was her true home, yet she dared not go back...
She was at a loss on how to face her uncle and aunt, especially after what Jane had done. Even if she didn't consider that person her sister, the fact remained that she was. Thus, she and Jane were inextricably linked, and others would see them as one entity.
She felt like crying... her home might be slipping away.
...
Kiara was sobbing in a small diner she frequented. Her best friends from school rushed over to console her upon hearing the news. Seeing her cry made them equally heartbroken.
Eventually, one of Kiara's friends couldn't bear to see her in such pain any longer. She sneaked away to the restroom to call Ariana using Kiara's phone, as it was the only one that had her sister's number.
She wasn't sure if she should make the call. But, recalling how Kiara always spoke fondly of her sister Ariana, she thought Ariana must truly care for her, though recent events had made her uncertain.
