The visitors were none other than Khloe and Aster, accompanied by their daughter-in-law, Beverly, and Gwen. Gwen's gaze towards Ariana was tinged with complexity and sympathy, while Beverly's eyes sparkled with unmistakable schadenfreude.
Ariana glanced at the four of them and asked curtly, "What brings you here?"
Aunt Khloe looked at Ariana and sighed, "Ariana, how have you been feeling lately? I spoke with the doctor, and he assured us that the baby was fine. Now that we know, we can rest easy. Mom and Dad are overjoyed to hear about your pregnancy again."
Ariana might have engaged in some polite small talk with them in the past. But now, teetering on the edge of a mental breakdown, she had no patience for pleasantries.
She responded with a nonchalant "Hmm," as if to say, "If that's all, you can leave now."
Aster and Khloe naturally sensed Ariana's unspoken dismissal and felt a twinge of displeasure.
They silently lamented her lack of manners, typical of someone from a modest background. However, considering the possibility that she might lose her son, they magnanimously decided to let it slide. Khloe showed no sign of irritation and continued to console her. "I know you're worried about Lucian, but you must take care of yourself. Lucian is gone, but we can't afford any mishaps with the baby you're carrying now."
At these words—
Ariana's eyes flashed with an icy glare.
Even Allison's gaze turned cold. She stood up angrily, fixing Khloe with a frosty stare, "Auntie, don't you think that's a bit too harsh? Lucian has been kidnapped, and there's still no news. Are you already declaring him dead? Are you cursing Ariana's son?"
Khloe frowned slightly, feigning innocence, "I didn't say anything wrong, did I? It's just the truth. Oh. I'm sorry; I tend to speak my mind without thinking. You know how straightforward I am, Ariana. Please don't take it to heart."
Ariana's expression remained impassive. "If there's nothing else, please leave."
Aster glanced at Ariana and then, with a forced smile, added, "Your aunt and I came here to discuss something with you. Now, Ariana, don't be upset with your aunt. You know she's always been blunt and outspoken."
Ariana's patience had worn thin to the extreme. Her gaze, icy and penetrating, lingered on Aster, whose eyes unmistakably gleamed with schadenfreude, and Khloe, whose indifferent expression was laced with disdain. A chill ran through her heart, plunging her emotions to their lowest point.
