In the end, Lambert and Stefan went to the company to work overtime.
Meanwhile, Allison followed Ariana back to her home.
Little Lucian had been sent to the main family residence today. Although the kidnapping incident had occurred, not allowing the child to return to the main residence and letting the old lady take care of him for a few days would make people think they held a grudge against her. After all, it had been an accident, so despite what happened, Ariana still made sure Little Lucian spent most of his time at the main residence.
Because of this, the old lady grew even more remorseful and affectionate toward Ariana and her son.
She poured almost all her love into them.
Even Alvin, the great-grandson left behind by the eldest branch of the family, couldn’t compare.
In the living room,
Ariana had Allison sit down while she went to pour her a glass of juice.
Allison was visibly downcast. When she looked up to take the juice from Ariana, her eyes welled up with tears, as if they might spill over at any moment. Her voice was hoarse as she spoke, "Ari, do you think there’s really something going on between Stefan and Lexi? What should I do…?" She truly had no idea how to handle this.
She and Ariana were the same age.
Only twenty-four years old. Her life had been smooth sailing, with hardly any turbulence in love, friendship, or family.
So when something like this suddenly happened, she was completely lost. Her mind went blank.
What made it worse was that the mayor’s daughter was undeniably outstanding.
It made Allison feel a sense of insecurity and inadequacy.
Unable to resist, Ariana gently stroked her friend’s hair and comforted her in a soft voice, "What’s there to be afraid of? Can’t you see? Stefan has only ever had you in his heart. So you can’t let yourself collapse before anything even happens. That Lexi—she’s definitely trouble. And it’s not just you. I suspect she has some issues with me too. Didn’t you hear that she and Jane are classmates and close friends? So my guess is, it won’t be long before Jane makes her move."
Of course, there were always unexpected twists.
With the mayor's re-election hanging in the balance, it was unlikely he would let his daughter stir up any trouble that might jeopardize his campaign. But once he secured another term—well, that was a different story.
Which meant the mayor’s daughter wasn’t just targeting Allison this time. She had her sights set on Ariana too.
Given Jane’s delicate, white-lotus persona, it was no surprise she had already charmed the mayor’s daughter into becoming her "best friend."
Allison, successfully diverted by Ariana’s earlier remark, paled with unease. "What do we do then?" she fretted, her voice thick with worry. "Jane might be easy to handle on her own, but she has too many advantages. And now with the mayor’s daughter backing her, I’m afraid you might get hurt. We can’t let Jane out—not after finally getting rid of her!"
She was referring to Jane’s influence over Ariana’s parents.
Allison knew just how biased Ariana’s parents were—and how completely Ariana had cut ties with them. If Jane were released, there was a chance Gilbert and his wife might forgive her.
At that, Ariana let out a soft, humorless laugh and shook her head.
That… probably wouldn’t happen.
