Due to Lexi's special status, she didn't have to wait long before being granted access.
When Jane appeared in the visitation room behind the glass partition, dressed in prison garb, Lexi immediately rushed forward. The sight of Lexi nearly made Jane burst into tears—and indeed, she did. Looking disheveled after just a short time in custody, Jane choked back sobs and cried out in desperation, "Lexi, you're here to save me, aren't you?"
Lexi had always been Jane's ultimate trump card.
Now that Lexi had finally arrived, a glimmer of hope flickered in Jane's heart—
She had known all along that Lexi would never abandon her. Back then, Jane had gone to great lengths to befriend Lexi. Thankfully, all her efforts hadn't been in vain.
With a mix of heartache and indignation, Lexi said, "If I hadn't come back to the country, I wouldn't have even known you were in prison! Who did this to you? Was it your cousin, Ariana?"
Tears immediately streamed down Jane's face.
Between sobs, she whispered, "Don't ask... It's all my fault. I was too trusting... Lexi, can you get me out of here?" Her face twisted into an expression of profound misery, as though she were suffering unbearable injustice but couldn't speak of it. Even an ordinary person would feel outraged seeing her like this, let alone Lexi.
After all, people have always sympathized with the vulnerable.
Lexi was about to respond when she suddenly hesitated, her expression stiffening. After a long pause, she reluctantly said, "I'm sorry, Jane... I can't get you out right now. But I promise, in a little while, I will. So don't be afraid—you just have to hold on a bit longer."
This was a critical moment for her father's re-election campaign. Though Lexi was often spoiled and willful, she still understood what truly mattered.
If her actions jeopardized her father's chances—
If she gave his opponents any ammunition—
She'd be finished.
Her father would kill her!
So even someone as fearless as her had to rein in her impulses—at least for now.
Upon hearing those words, Jane froze for a moment before her face nearly twisted in fury!
She truly couldn’t stand staying here a second longer—not one more moment! So when she heard the news, she almost lost control of herself. The time spent in prison had worn away most of her former temperament, leaving her irritable and full of resentment. For a split second, she even forgot to maintain her carefully crafted persona—the innocent victim of her cousin’s cruelty—in front of Lexi.
Fortunately, Lexi had spoken with a hint of awkwardness, avoiding direct eye contact.
That was why she missed the fleeting, venomous expression on Jane’s face.
After nearly half a minute of silence, Lexi finally lifted her gaze, unable to bear the lack of response. By then, Jane had already regained her composure. She forced a smile—more of a grimace—and said in a strained voice, "It’s… fine. As long as you still consider me a friend, that’s all that matters. It doesn’t matter when I get out, as long as I don’t cause you any trouble."
Her words successfully moved Lexi.
Locking eyes with Jane, Lexi spoke earnestly, "Don’t worry, Jane. I *will* get you out. That Ariana is pure evil—she’ll get what’s coming to her. And once you’re free, I swear she won’t dare lay a finger on you. No one messes with my friends."
Jane replied with heartfelt sincerity, "Thank you, Lexi."
