Since Ariana became pregnant when Little Lucian was about one year old, by the time the twins were born, Lucian’s second birthday was just around the corner.
After all, he was the beloved treasure of the entire Stone family.
Even with the arrival of his two biological younger brothers, Old Mr. Stone and Old Mrs. Stone still doted on Lucian a little more.
Though his birthday celebration was still two months away, preparations were already underway.
The twins still hadn’t been named. The old master had been flipping through dictionaries lately, determined to choose the perfect names for his two grandsons. As for Lambert, he remained indifferent to it all, shuttling between the Stone Corporation and Lamari Group as usual. The Stone family had all but publicly confirmed his position as the next successor.
So even when Lambert purged some of the old personnel in the company, Old Mr. Stone turned a blind eye.
For one, some of those people were indeed deadweight.
More importantly, Lambert would eventually take over the Stone Corporation, so Old Mr. Stone no longer interfered with his decisions. Too much control would only stifle him. While it was acceptable to guide a grandson, it was unacceptable for a future leader.
Such restraint would only hinder the company’s growth. Thus, Old Mr. Stone had already begun stepping back, gradually relinquishing authority.
During her postpartum confinement, Ariana stayed at the Stone residence.
The twins were well cared for by specially trained nannies hired by the Stone family.
Ariana’s health also improved day by day.
The entire Stone family household was immersed in the joy of welcoming the twins, and everyone wore smiles of happiness.
Just as Ariana was reclining on the bed, idly flipping through a book, a maid knocked lightly on the door and said softly, "Madam, your mother is here."
Ariana froze.
This truly surprised her. After their falling out, her mother had rarely visited.
It seemed she had finally accepted that after all these years, no real bond had formed between her and Ariana. A thousand more words wouldn’t change that, so there was no point wasting time. This realization only deepened the chill in Ariana’s heart, extinguishing the last flicker of hope she might have harbored.
Now, her sudden visit caught Ariana completely off guard.
Ariana remained silent for a couple of seconds before finally saying, “Let her in.”
The maid outside responded, “Yes, Madam.” With that, she left. Two or three minutes later, footsteps echoed from the hallway. The maid opened the door, revealing Georgia standing outside. The maid smiled and gestured politely. “I’ll be downstairs if you need anything, Madam.”
Ariana gave a slight nod. “Mm.”
The maid then withdrew, carefully closing the door behind her.
Now, only Georgia and Ariana remained in the room. Georgia wore an awkward expression, her smile stiff and unnatural, as if she had forgotten how to communicate with her daughter after so long apart. In the past, it had always been Jane by her side, while Ariana was the troublemaker, a constant source of mild displeasure.
Then, one day, Ariana seemed to have a change of heart.
