Rebirth Revenge Is Everything (Ariana) novel Chapter 484

Fanny's response was a sarcastic chuckle.

Maxwell rubbed his nose, looking slightly guilty as he said, "If my brother's looking for you, it must be important. You'd better go."

Fanny stood her ground. "First, tell me what you got out of this."

Knowing Maxwell's personality, he wouldn't lift a finger without some benefit, even for something as simple as calling her over. The man was notoriously lazy, only mustering energy when it came to racing cars. At events like these banquets, he usually just found a quiet corner, sipping red wine while idly observing the crowd.

Fanny had hit the nail on the head.

Maxwell cleared his throat awkwardly. Seeing her determined expression, he finally caved. "Alright, fine. It's nothing much. Just that my brother promised to get me that limited-edition race car I've been eyeing." Money wasn't the issue—Maxwell had plenty. The problem was acquiring it through exclusive channels, which required his brother's connections.

Fanny let out another dry laugh. "Quite the steep price for playing messenger boy."

Maxwell just grinned sheepishly.

Rolling her eyes, Fanny glanced in the direction where Ariana and Lambert had disappeared.

After a long pause, she finally turned and headed toward Damon. Surely nothing was wrong... Ariana and Lambert seemed genuinely happy together—nothing like some superficial replacement relationship. That woman must have been deliberately stirring trouble.

She hoped Lambert would comfort Ariana properly. Marriages among the wealthy could be both unshakable and fragile. Fanny naturally wished for Ariana's lifelong happiness. If their marriage hit rocky ground, the fallout would extend far beyond just the two of them.

...

Meanwhile, Ariana remained blissfully unaware of her friend's concerns.

After speaking with Lambert, she headed straight for the banquet exit. Watching Ariana's hurried pace, Lambert became increasingly convinced that she must be running a fever again and feeling unwell, hence her eagerness to return home.

So after informing Angelo, he followed Ariana out.

Angelo clicked his tongue and shook his head as he watched Lambert’s retreating figure, silently lamenting that this time, Lambert was truly done for.

Meanwhile, inside the car.

Once both Lambert and Ariana had settled in, the driver started the engine. Yet, something felt off. Whether it was his imagination or not, the atmosphere in the backseat was inexplicably tense, making the driver uneasy as well.

After about three seconds of silence, Lambert turned to Ariana, who had her eyes closed and hadn’t uttered a word. "Still feeling unwell?" he asked.

Ariana didn’t respond.

Even a fool would have sensed that something was wrong by now, let alone Lambert. He studied her intently for a long moment before suddenly realizing what was going on. His eyes narrowed sharply as he stared at her silent profile. "You’re giving me the silent treatment," he stated flatly.

It wasn’t a question—it was a declaration.

Ariana finally snapped out of her daze. She turned her head slowly to gaze out the window before murmuring, "No, I’m not."

Lambert wasn’t buying it.

Her attitude was far too obvious. Did she think he was blind?

But what puzzled him was why she was upset in the first place. Had something happened at the banquet? The thought darkened his expression. Without hesitation, he pulled her toward him, scrutinizing her from head to toe to ensure she was unharmed. Only then did he exhale in relief. "Tell me," he demanded, voice low. "Who made you angry? I’ll make them pay for it."
