After the two returned to the villa, Ariana couldn't help but ask Lambert, "Was this all part of the plan?"
Lambert gave a slight nod. "Most likely."
While it was true that Arnold's father had fallen ill from anger, Khloe's exaggerated claims about the severity of the illness were undoubtedly overblown. But it didn't matter—all debts had been settled now.
For his son's sake, he would try to avoid excessive bloodshed.
In the past, he wouldn't have believed in such things.
Even if retribution awaited him in the future, he wouldn’t have cared.
But now, things were different. He had Ariana and three sons. Unless pushed too far, Lambert wouldn’t resort to complete annihilation.
Of course, it all depended on the other party’s actions.
Lambert pondered this coolly.
The atmosphere between them grew tense again, the silence stretching uncomfortably. After a long pause, Ariana said flatly, "I'm going upstairs." With that, she turned to leave.
Lambert’s gaze flickered instinctively.
Before she could take another step, she felt his hand close around hers. When she turned back, she found him staring straight at her, his eyes unreadable.
Ariana pressed her lips together, saying nothing.
Lambert held her gaze, equally silent.
Ariana could no longer bear the intensity of Lambert's gaze. Flustered, she averted her eyes and changed the subject. "What is it?"
Lambert watched as she looked away, a faint sigh flickering in his eyes before he spoke softly, "What's really going on with you?"
Ariana turned back. "Hmm?"
Gently, Lambert brushed his fingers through her hair. "You've been like this lately. If I've done something to upset you, at least tell me. How else can I make it right?" His voice carried a hint of quiet resignation, though his expression remained tender—always tender when his eyes rested on her.
For a moment, Ariana's heart stilled. Then she shook her head slightly. "It's nothing... I’ve just been tired lately." She couldn’t bring herself to admit it was because of Madelyn and that shadow of a past romance, one that didn’t even exist. It felt petty, especially since Lambert had already explained everything. Yet here she was, still bothered by it.
She was being unreasonable, and she knew it. So she stayed silent.
But Lambert seemed to read her thoughts anyway. Without a word, he shook his head, then pressed a light kiss to her forehead. "If you're tired, rest. There’s something I haven’t told you yet—meant to be a surprise. But I suppose I can let you in on it a little early."
Ariana finally perked up, curiosity flickering in her eyes. "A surprise? What is it?"
The corner of Lambert’s lips curved as he leaned in, nipping lightly at her earlobe before murmuring, "I’m taking you on a trip. And Lucian, too. Our first family vacation. I imagine he’ll be thrilled."
Now that truly caught her off guard.
Lambert was the type who avoided mentioning his three "annoying little lightbulbs" if he could help it. Yet here he was, not only bringing one up but actually suggesting they take him along.
This left Ariana both surprised and struggling to suppress her laughter.
