Chapter 159
“Emily, I wanted to see you. These flowers are for you!”
James handed Emily a large bouquet.
Emily took a step back, her face stern. “I don’t want them. Take them back! Didn’t I tell you last time not to show up here again?”
“Emily, I know you’re mad about Bianca. I swear, there’s nothing between us anymore. You said you don’t like people who just talk. Look, I even posted it online. I did what you asked, didn’t I? Can you give me another chance?”
James tried to push the roses into Emily’s arms.
Emily frowned. “Take them away. And for the record, I never liked roses. Bianca is the one who likes red roses!”
“Sorry, I didn’t bring these because Bianca likes them. I thought all girls liked roses. I even asked Jace, and he agreed, so I brought them.”
James thought his explanation would make Emily less annoyed with him.
Little did he know, Emily’s laughter grew louder. “You can’t even bother to understand someone truly, yet you have the nerve to say you know you were wrong. James, stop pretending. The only one you’re fooling is yourself. There’s no chance for us, never!”
Emily turned away and walked out, avoiding James.
James shouted after her, “Emily, you’re saying these harsh words only because you’re angry right now. I won’t give up so easily this time. I’ll learn and fix everything that makes you unhappy. I’ll show you my sincerity.”
“Suit yourself!”
Emily saw that James was acting like he couldn’t understand human language. She knew it was pointless to say more. As long as he didn’t disrupt her life, she wouldn’t bother with him. But if he did, she wouldn’t be so polite.
James, however, took Emily’s casual remark as a sign she was softening. He shamelessly shouted, “Fine, you’ll see!”
Since Emily didn’t want the roses, he tossed them into the trash can.
The trash can was right between Emily and Daniel’s houses. As Daniel walked out, he saw James holding the roses.
He immediately guessed who James intended to give the flowers to, and his sharp gaze cut through James like a knife.
“Didn’t I warn you to stop bothering Emily?”
James instinctively feared Daniel.
So when he heard Daniel’s cold question, he lowered his head.
But soon, he realized he couldn’t back down on this matter.
He was determined to compete with Daniel for Emily.
If he had known Emily as long as Daniel, he might not have had the confidence to compete. But he believed he had a deeper connection with Emily, especially since they had shared experiences of mutual support that others hadn’t.
Feeling more confident, James raised his eyes and met Daniel’s fierce gaze.
“Daniel, you’re strong, and I might not match you in many ways. But love isn’t decided by those things. You don’t know the days Emily and I supported each other. It’s something no one else can compare to. I believe if I recognize my mistakes and correct them, Emily will choose me. Not even you can change that!”
“How dare you speak to Mr. Smith like that!” York scolded.
Daniel made a gesture to silence York.
Daniel looked at James with a knowing look. “You don’t get it, man. Emily’s tougher than you think. She had a difficult childhood and emerged stronger as a result. She’s not gonna change her mind just because you say you messed up.”
“I know her better than you think. She won’t give up on me!” James insisted stubbornly.
“York!” Daniel glanced at James with disdain, not wanting to waste any more time on him. He called out to his right-hand man.
“Yes, sir!”
“Seems like he’s not thinking straight. Take him to the pool and give him a reality check.”
With that, Daniel got into his car.
York quickly grabbed James and dragged him towards the villa.
James tried to struggle, but York’s words stopped him cold.
“Mr. Smith’s orders are never defied. If you resist, it’ll only get worse. Think carefully.”
James didn’t dare move.
York called for the bodyguards to throw James into the pool for a good dunking.
Then York got into the car and drove Daniel to the office.
James was tossed into the pool by the bodyguards, gulping down a large mouthful of water.
He struggled to get up, only to be pushed back into the water repeatedly,
Because Daniel hadn’t ordered them to stop.
Everything was recorded on surveillance. Even though Daniel had left the villa, he could still see it all on the video.
Finally, Daniel gave the order to the bodyguards, “Enough.”
James was finally free. He was exhausted and looked terrible.
The bodyguards carried him back to where Kade and the others lived.
“Who do you think you are, hurting James? Do you know who we are? We’re part of the Smith family, just like Daniel. How dare you touch my son!” Kade demanded answers.
