“Do I need your help? Why do you always have to be so self–centered?”

Emily was speechless, almost rolling her eyes in disbelief.

James’s face darkened, his gaze fixed on Harold. “So, is it him you like, or the guy next to him, or maybe both?”

Before he could finish, a fist landed hard on his face.

James’s face swelled up instantly.

Aaron grabbed James by the collar, ready to punch him again.

“I’ve had enough of you. I’ve been wanting to punch you for a long time. How can someone like you be Emily’s fiancé? I’ve never seen a fiancé who would accuse his fiancée of such things. You’re trash!”

Aaron’s anger grew, and his fist was raised high again.

James couldn’t move his hands, so he couldn’t fight back.

Seeing Aaron’s fist about to come down again, Emily intervened.

“Aaron, don’t dirty your hands on him!”

Emily stopped Aaron, not out of concern for James, but because she didn’t want someone as gentle as Aaron to get his hands dirty because of James. After all, Harold was right there, and they would be working together more in the future. She didn’t want to ruin Aaron’s image in Harold’s eyes.

Aaron looked a bit aggrieved but obediently let go of James when he met Emily’s gaze.

Aaron might have misunderstood, but for someone as narcissistic as James, it only made things worse.

“Emily, you do care about me. If that’s the case, why are you doing all this? Just to get my attention?”

James seemed lost in his own world, talking to himself.

Harold, having listened to the conversation, guessed the nature of James and Emily’s relationship. But James seemed blind and ungrateful, having Emily but not cherishing her, and even slandering such an outstanding woman.

“Ms. Johnson, aren’t you going to introduce this gentleman? Your fiancé?”

Harold had a gossipy look on his face. Despite being punched by James, he didn’t seem to hold it against Emily. After all, he was an innocent bystander.

Emily looked apologetically at Mr. Rogers. “Mr. Rogers, I’m sorry you had to see this. He is my fiancé, well, ex–fiancé. We’ve called off the engagement.”

“Emily, I didn’t agree to that. Who said we called off the engagement?”

James started to act shamelessly, thinking Emily was trying to appear single in front of Harold to get his attention.

James suddenly realized something. Could this Harold be the investor he was looking for?

His eyes flickered with regret. He had acted impulsively. It was all Emily’s fault. If she hadn’t been so willful, he wouldn’t have done this.

Unlike his previous aggressive demeanor towards Mr. Rogers, James now tried to smile as friendly as possible.

Mr. Rogers, I apologize. I misunderstood your actions earlier, which made me act impulsively. It wasn’t intentional.”

James was good at shifting blame.

Harold looked at James with a half–smile, guessing that James had probably recognized his identity. He had seen many people like James, who trampled on the weak and flattered the strong, and it didn’t make him any more likable.

“Is that so? I don’t mind. A man can take a punch. But Ms. Johnson, such a delicate beauty, being misunderstood by her own fiancé, or rather, ex–fiancé, must be quite hurtful.”

Harold’s words, calling Emily a beauty, made James’s suppressed anger rise again. He clenched his fists and directed his anger at Aaron.

“Emily, you claim to be innocent, but your friend here punched me out of nowhere. As a man, I know what men think. Why do you think he’s so nice to you? Besides your young body, what else do you have?”

This time, it was Emily who slapped James hard.

“Do you think everyone is as vile as you? My friend and I are meeting Mr. Rogers to discuss business. How dare you judge us with your filthy mind!”

Emily had initially planned to ignore James. In her past life, she had been betrayed but didn’t seek revenge out of childhood sentiment. In this life, she had stepped aside to let him be, without any intention of revenge.

But James had changed, constantly provoking her.

“Good job, Emily! You shouldn’t be soft–hearted with such a bad man!” Aaron cheered, seeing Emily slap James, thinking she was finally ready to move on.

James, humiliated in front of Harold, glared at Aaron and said to Harold, “Mr. Rogers, you see how they are ganging up on me. As a man, how could I not be angry seeing my fiancée like this? She only said we broke up out of spite.”

Harold chuckled, “Is it appropriate to explain this to an outsider like me? By the way, Ms. Johnson, who is this gentleman?”

James frowned, unsure of Harold’s intentions.

Emily sensed Harold’s mischief. James’s sudden change in attitude towards Harold was likely because he recognized Harold’s identity and wanted to curry favor for future cooperation.

So, she deliberately said, “This gentleman is the newly found heir of Ascend Global Group.”
